And the safety video on my last flight was in English and then in Spanish (more blaring noise that most everyone on the plane seemed to ignore).

I noticed that as well on a flight this past weekend. I was totally caught by surprise when they didn't give the Alabama schpeal!!!

Classic: when I logged on to the website today, I saw a big banner that said "Announcing usairways.com en espanol. Click here to learn more!".

I figured the point of a Spanish website was to communicate with Spanish-speaking customers that don't know English. Or maybe US assumes that Spanish-speaking customers that don't know English know what "Click here to learn more!" means and nothing else. :D :D :D

Kind of ironic - I was hunting around a Spanish web site yesterday, which someone told me was also in English, hunting for anything that indicated an English language version. Eventually, I did a search for Eng (or Ang or Ing - I can't rememer which finally worked) and found what must have been Spanish for "click here for English" :)

Now it appears there is a button just marked "Espanol" on the US site. And a button marked "English" on the Spanish site - how 'bout that.

With their big push into Latin America and FLL, I think US management deserves praise for setting up a Spanish website. It shows that someone in Crystal City is actually thinking how to get more customers. Ditto for Attache magazine and the announcements.

This is what this airline has needed for a number of years--People in management doing intuitive and practical things that sell seats. I don't know if Lakefield as a non-airline person deserves this praise, but it is under his leadership. Maybe marketing will recruit more non-airline people to replace the B's that will think outside the box. Well done! ^

Funny, i bet your thinking anglais for French and inglés for Spanish.

Is it me or does that box look cut off though on the top of the page, i just don't care for how that looks.

I have been surprised not to find a Spanish language site for US previously.

The spanish national site:
http://www.usairways.es/

With US flying to Madrid I have been surprised that this address has always come up as the same as the US domestic site. Their marketing in Spain has been minimal. After joining *A I have noticed that spanair started marketing 12 codeshares to American cities but that is about it.

I find it odd that Madrid has not been added to the list on the Spanish site. I guess they see this as a latin american site to feature the new Ft Lauderdale hub.

AA just developed a Spanish site last year though and they have had an alliance with Iberia for years. With 13% of the US with hispanic roots it seems only natural to market agressively to this segment.

Now that we'll have some new Spanish-speaking friends visiting the site (and hopefully also here on FT), anyone want to wager when we get the first "Porqué hace el trabajo reverso del botón no" question?

(Rough translation - why doesnt the back button work)? ;)

Seriously - kudos to US for thinking of this.

Those of you who are new - all time best "back button on website" joke was the doctored photo of the US plane painted in usairways.com livery - the plane really said "no fees, no hassle, no brainer" and was doctored to say "no fees, no hassle, no BACK BUTTON" ;)

Honestly, my experiences with the usairways.com back button have permanently scarred me. I now hesitate on almost any website before I hit the back button. My shrink has tried to help, but to no avail. Think we can get a class action together before the new law goes into effect? :) :)

Nope -- not just you. The english/espanol boxes do look cut off on the right side.

It's the skintag of usairways.com. Actually, both of those "bubble" buttons up in the navy look horridly out of place but I dont think they could figure out any better place to put them.

Hey, at least usairways.com support should have no problem communicating with them :D

It looks like they heard you. The Espanol button is now rounded on the homepage (not cut off).
