I'm trying to book a one-way rental for a trip to the West Coast in April. With two parents, one baby, a whole lot of luggage and eleven days of renting, it has to be a minivan. (OK, an SUV would do at a pinch, but we'd really rather get a minivan.)

Ideally I'd rent from Hertz so that I can get Neverlost, but for the difference in price between Hertz ($1200+) and Alamo ($640) I could BUY a Neverlost-alike -- actually almost two of them!

And $640 seems kind of expensive anyway -- are LAX and PDX so far apart that any kind of reasonable rate just isn't going to happen? Are there any tricks that will get us a better rate?

To be honest with you, my company requires (and pays for) all my business rentals. But if I had to rent and pay for myself it would probably be Enterprise.

What do you need Neverlost for? Buy a map.

One ways usually increase the cost (though I was pleasantly surprised between DCA and BWI), and between LAX and PDX chances are the car is going to have to be moved out of LAX's inventory and into PDX's (unless somebody happens to want to do a one-way back), so that probably jacks up the price even more. Just between SEA and PDX a one-way usually doubles the price (though my HLE gets a lot of Oregon cars so I can often work a deal with them if it needs to go back to PDX).
