I am looking into getting a u.s. airways credit card. Here is my dilemma... They say you get one dividend mile for every dollar spent, but on their website you redeem award miles. are dividend miles and award miles the same. For a roundtrip flight to the Carribean, i would need 25,000 award miles. Does this mean i have to charge $25,000 to my card to get that airline ticket for free? This doesn't seem right, as you can buy miles for 3.5 cents each? what is the difference, or conversion......................

Divend miles and "award miles" are the same thing.
As far as buying miles from the airline and earning miles using the credit card, there really is no difference, other than price. Buying miles from the airline is one of the most expensive ways to accrue miles.

I'm moving this thread over to the US Airways forum where it will get the proper readership.

Welcome to FlyerTalk, Stitch72.
I would suggest that you spend some time browsing through the site. You will find that there are different forums, each dedicated to a particular subject.
This one, "TalkBoard Topics" is for ideas that people would like to suggest that the TalkBoard consider implementing to make the site a better one.
I think you would find that your question is best suited for the "US Airways Dividend Miles" forum. You might also find there a lot of additional information about US Airways that can prove helpful.
Again, welcome aboard -- I think you will find that FlyerTalk is a trip worth taking.

The $25,000 is for other things you bought, not airline miles directly. So, if I go buy a new TV for $500, that's 500 miles and I get the TV.
Additionally, there are a lot of bonuses for signing up for the cards, up to 10K or 15K miles just for signing up. At that point, it's a lot less miles to get an award ticket.
There are literally hundreds of ways to earn miles; for the most comprehensive list I've seen, look at pgary's site:
