This has probably been asked before but I can't see it anywhere. I am in Auckland for a few nights in July and will be staying at the Novotel (for the rugby). Is this hotel ok? and does it have good access to the Stadium.
I also have an option of staying a few more days. Should I change hotels and if so any recommendations.
Thanks. :)

Hi
I presume you are staying at Novotel Ellerslie (and not at the Mercure which used to be Novotel Auckland).
Its a little out of central city, and on the opposite side of the city centre to the rugby. If you're staying in Ellerslie for a few days its probably worth hiring a car.
You will either need a car or factor in public transport. For test match rugby I dont recommend taking a car. Too many hassles finding park, cost and having to walk long way.
Easiest way from Ellerslie to the rugby is to take a "Downtown" bus to the Britomart train station and then take the train out to Eden Park.
There are plenty of nicer (read more expensive) hotels in the central city.

Hi Kiwi Flyer,
Thanks for that info. Yes it is the Ellerslie (all that was available as every hotel in AKL is gone).
I want to stay somewhere really nice in the city for a few days afterwards. Any suggestions?
Russell Corr, I think Kiwi Flyer has answered you over in the QF Forum. I'd agree that the Hilton auckland is hard to turn away from..given my wrap in my Trip Report. Your only problem might be finding availability...

I stayed at the Ellersie about a year back. Nothing special just a basic hotel with basic facilities. I booked it 'cos it was cheap and as my business was to East Tamaki, it was convenient with it being 'next' to the highway.
