Las Vegas - Can extra hotel "guests" use the pool?

I'm planning a trip to Vegas for June. There will be a large group of us going, with 4-5 people per room. Realizing that most hotels charge $15+ per person per night for the 3rd and 4th guests, I was debating not "declaring" these extra guests when making the reservation.

I realize I will only get two room keys; how will this impact the ability for everyone to use the hotel pool? When I stayed at the Mirage, the pool attendant took my key and ran it through a computer, which I can only assume showed how many guests were staying in my room. At the Tropicana and Flamingo, I only recall flashing my keycard at the attendant and strolling in. I don't recall being asked for a card at all at the Luxor.

Do hotels strictly enforce who they let in based on room occupancy? Suppose I had friends staying in a different hotel: would they be allowed in with me?

Bally's required the room key. I doubt you could get an extra 2 or 3 people into that pool. Many hotels have a rule that the pool is for guests only. Might want to call the hotel you plan to stay at and ask.

Probably the room key check is just to see if the key is valid. You can always get extra keys. In any hassle with hotel employees, especially at the pool, remember the magic words:

"I'M A GUEST OF THE CASINO."

At the Venetian there's a door to the pool area that you need to use your room key to access. However, with so many people coming and going, I don't recall ever having to do this...

Take your ID and go to the front desk. Tell them you've misplaced your key or you left it in your room. They will check your ID and give you another one. When we go to the pool only one of us brings the key anyway and never had a problem.

Depends on the hotel. At Mandalay Bay each guest (including children) needs a key to enter the pool. Some places don't care.

At a stay at the Hard Rock, they issued the # of wristbands to correspond with the # of guests registered.

My experience has been that the original cards become useless for room entry as the new cards have a different code than the original.

It might work for showing a card for pool access, but might create more problems getting back into the room.
