Does anyone have a list of the airports in FL that will let you specify the car you want?
Looking to rent at MCO and want the new Mustang.
I have the Gold newsletter where they announced this but the link is no good.
Thanks for any information.

Orlando is one of the locations where this is available. :)
Introducing - Reserve your Brand and Model
Beginning December 1, 2004, for rentals commencing after January 1, 2005, you can choose between a traditional "car class" reservation or a specific brand and model vehicle on weekly and weekend rentals at no extra cost. Reserve the car or SUV you want at select U.S. vacation destination airport locations in Arizona, California, Colorado and Florida. Additional airport locations from coast-to-coast to be added in 2005.
The specific car you want is the one you’ll get, like a Ford Mustang, a Ford Expedition or a Ford Taurus. To find out about other available models or to place your reservation, visit hertz.com or call 1-800-CAR-GOLD (1-800-227-4653).
Reserve Specific Brand and Model vehicles at these airport locations*: Arizona: Phoenix
California: Los Angeles
Oakland
Ontario
Orange County
San Diego
San Francisco
Colorado: Denver
Florida: Fort Lauderdale
Fort Myers
Miami
Orlando
Tampa

safetymom-
I can confirm that TPA is one of the locations where you can select your car online. I, too, was hoping to get one of the 2005 Mustangs when I arrived, but learned that I'd been given a Hyundai instead. My trip was last weekend and it looked like a lot of people reserved cars for the drive to JAX for the "big game."
When I got out to their lot, I noticed a 2005 Mustang, but was told that they didn't have the key for that car. Other interesting options there included an Audi A6 and a Hummer H2.
Anyway, I was able to get an upgrade to a 2004 Mustang convertible, which I returned the next morning for the 2005 Mustang I'd been looking for. Even though it was a 2005, it already had more than 10K miles on it. This one was a different color than the one I saw the night before, so they must have at least two there.

Last weekend a class D (Mustang) in TPA was $75/day!
...by the time you rent it for a week at that rate you could almost BUY one outright!

Where on Hertz.com do you get to choose a specific model? I was trying to book in Tampa, and was presented with the usual array of Ford Focus or similar, Mazda 6 or similar, etc.
Is there a special link for booking a specific car?

Good thing that I wasn't paying that. ;)
I'd reserved the car a couple of weeks earlier, so I missed the super pricing. With one of the Gold coupons it was supposed to be $40 total for the weekend, but Hertz TPA claims that all coupons were blacked out that weekend (not the case according to Hertz.com). I should add that the upgrade to the convertible was $8/day, but that was removed once I downgraded again to the hardtop.
For reserving a specific car, it just said "Ford Mustang" under the usual selection of cars- "Mustang, Monte Carlo Or Similar. There is a separate button to mark under the list of standard cars. This is true at TPA for getting a Mazda6, among others. It's there under the "What" screen.

Has anyone noticed that sometimes, when you you specify a brand/model, Hertz.com charges a lot more than what they would charge for the unspecified car in the same class?
I've been noticing this on different reservations. It seems that when rental prices are higher (holidays, special events, etc.), specifying a certain brand makes the rental price go even higher! Then there are those other times when the price is the same regardless of whether you specify a car or not.

Thanks - now I see it. OK, so I choose Mazda 6 (instead of Mazda 6, Malibu, or similar) and now I get the following message:
No rate qualifies, please select another vehicle or rate type.
I remove all CDP and PC codes, and I still get this message. I call Hertz, and they can't select Mazda 6 as a specific car either, but tell me that I will get one because I've indicated a preference for foreign cars in my profile. Then they tell me they are short of vehicles in Tampa because of the Daytona 500.
Thinking that it is the race that is keeping me from booking a specific car, I try dates until the end of June, and still get the "No rate qualifies" message.
I'll go to Tampa and see what they have for me... :(

Not for my rental. For my just before Mid-March rental at FLL, I am getting a Toyota Camry for $87.99 for a week before their outrageous taxes and fees at that location (base rate $134.99 less CDP and PC). Same price as a regular full size.
Hertz rates were extremely high at FLL two days ago for my dates but yesterday for my dates they beat even the cheapest rental I had found w/ coupon at Alamo ($95 for a full-size weekly rental). I'm a lot happier now that I'll be renting with Hertz.
