Hertz - Does adding a foreign car preference to your profile reduce upgrade odds?

If I have Hertz add to my profile that I prefer a foreign car, does that mean I reduce my chances of getting an upgrade? Right now, I always rent a C and almost always wind up with a Taurus.

While I am pleased that they provide me with an upgrade, I generally prefer foreign cars. Once I got a G35, and have also gotten an Altima, both of which are nice.

I'm basically looking to, if possible, still get upgraded, but to a foreign car.

Other people on this forum will have more experience than me, especially because I'm not 5* or PC, but since adding a foreign preference to my profile and reserving a mid-size I've received an Altima and a Camry with NL (class F6, which I hadn't heard of before).

They didn't upgrade my class D rental, but I wanted the new Mustang :D

Well for foreign cars, you're looking at the Altima and Mazda 6 for midsize, the Camry and Maxima for full-size, not sure if they have a premium (used to be the Avalon, but now that is Class H) - maybe the Hyundai Sonata - and then the Avalon or G35 for Class H.

Usually the YF (specialty full-size) are Impalas or Grands Prix. So asking for foreign probably will hurt your upgrades beyond full-size and the Camrys and Maxima usually lack leather and sunroofs and stuff that the Impalas and Grands Prix have.

The Corolla is also considered to be a mid-size.

I actually feel that my foreign car preference in my profile helps me w/upgrades. When I rent for personal use, I always rent an eco size, and get upgraded to a camry, altima, or mazda 6. Much happier to get those than a taurus or impala any day.

I don't remember seeing this option in my gold profile. Took a quick look and couldn't find it. Is this a phone call to Hertz to get this notation added?

Thanks

There is no such option available at their web site - you need to contact them either by phone or email and they will happily add it to your profile.

Btw, am I the only one who has 'no foreign cars' in his profile? I really prefer Taurus etc. over any foreign car ... I guess I will receive all those cars you didn't want ;-)

Thanks everyone for sharing their experience. I think I'm going to make the change.

The Altima is my favorite midsize, but I really like the Impala as a full-size. Tons of room (as good as a Crown Vic/Grand Marquis) and with leather and sunroof, comfy for long (200 mile) trips.

I book full size and normally I get the Crown Vic / Marquis. I just figured I'd like a change so I'm going to add the note to my profile and book some mid-size. With my luck, I'll get the Echo.
