I called the Travelclub number today, and learnt that Companion Tickets can be issued on LX ticketed flights operated by El Al and Denim Air. These constitute the main exceptions, and the Basel - Zurich train can be added to that list. So presumably Free Tickets can be interlined between LX flights operated by these companies, LX itself, and one Travelclub partner. Unfortunately I didn't think to ask about this at the time.
I also learnt that Styrian Spirit can be interlined only with LX, and not any further Travelclub partner. Hopefully that rule may change in time, as Styrian Spirit (Salzburg Spirit, Slovenian Spirit) is expanding to include destinations such as Paris and Maribor in Slovenia (proposed secondary hub).
The original point of today's call was to establish whether a Companion Ticket could be issued for Australia. The amswer was no, despite the fact that it is offered in the Travelclub guide. As the person was relatively new to Travelclub staff, parhaps some of you out there know something about companion tickets to Australia. For example, does Travelclub make an exception on the Qantas operated LX codeshare to Sydney?
