I am planning a trip to South America in May - my first time there (on a One World 6 cont. RTW).
Does anybody have suggestions for nice hotels for 2-3 days in these cities? I am looking for something nice, not necessary inexpensive, but not overpriced.

I realize that many of you are new to FlyerTalk. If you will brouse around, you will see that there are different message boards for different topics. This message board, for example, is for the latest Buzz on Frequent Flyer programs. A general inquiry about needing a hotel in a particular location does not belong in Buzz. It is a General Travel topic. It has nothing to do with frequent flyer programs. The whole place works better for everyone if we try to follow the organization. Thanks.

I suggest the Marriott in Lima and Santiago and the Hilton in Buenos Aires. All three hotels are good locations and less than a year old. Really great hotels. $150 each except Buenos Aires as all things are costly there.

I strongly suggest the Hyatt Regency Santiago ... it is one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed at, and is in the same nice district as the Marriott. Have fun!

DJlawman I agree with, but as this is already posted there, BA has two well located Sheratons I have stayed at, and using those UA 50% coupons you find on Coupon Connection you get quite a good deal there.
The Colon in Lima is very nice, and central. Lima is a DUMP anyway, and hope you are only transitting and heading to Cuzco, Macchu Picchu etc? In which latter case the ONLY place to consider is the single small hotel up the mountain at the ruins, called Las Ruinas.
Was in Santiago this year and a 5 star but reasonable place wqs Hotel Diego de Almagro, right on the wide main Avenida Benardo O'Higgins. There is NO Hilton proprty in Santiago of any kind, which is bizarre. There is NO airport Hotel of any kind, which is even more annoying and bizzare. The Sheraton is very poorly located there btw.

A friend went to B.A. last summer and stayed at the Park Hyatt. She said it was fabulous and she was able to use UA half price coupons. Make sure you stay in a nice place in Lima. I was there years ago in an earthquake in the middle of the night in a $2 a night dump. It was pretty terrifying.
