Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - Melbourne car rental

I posted this in the original Hertz thread on cheap car rentals in Australia, but wanted to try it here. We are wanting to rent a car in Melbourne now (after realizing how far of a drive from syd to mel would be!)...anyone know of a good & inexpensive car rental co in Mel?

Also, we are flying Jet star from SYD into avalon...is this the main airport (MEL)? Is this airport further to downtown than the main one?

The cheapest I could get was from Avis with the code D005927 I got that off the Flyertalk avis thread & many people have used it... we got a good rate...

Well, it looks like that one's gone. Today, when I tried that number for a rental in May I got the following:
"Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD) is invalid"

Also, we are flying Jet star from SYD into avalon...is this the main airport (MEL)? Is this airport further to downtown than the main one?

Tullamarine is the main airport (MEL). Avalon is a facility (pretty much just a shed) used by Jetstar located between Melbourne and Geelong. It is further away from downtown (CBD) then MEL. So if you're getting a rental from Avalon airport make sure you don't book it at MEL.
