Starwood Preferred Guest - Royal/Presidential Suite Upgrades/Discounts

I was looking at the Pinceville resort in HI. It looks like the Royal rack rate is 5K/night and the Presidential is 4K. Are there reasonable discounts/upgrades that can get one of these suites as a plat spg holder? Will an SPG50 work? Points? Call and haggle? Any ideas would be great. In general can you get good discounts on the high end suites?

Status has no bearing on price paid - therefore being a plat versus gold isn't going to change anything. These suites are also specifically excluded from platinum upgrades as they are specialty suites. Lastly SPG50's are excluded from use in Hawaii, so that won't work either.

Given the popularity of Hawaii as a destination and the number of honeymooners that are likely to splurge, I'd say chances are slim for scoring any sizable discount unless you're filling the entire property with paying guests in your entourage.

Well if it were me in your case, .... I'd just phone and say:

"This is the Supreme Leader of the Free World - can you sell me a room please?"

If they reply:

"Sorry Mr Amin, but we are all sold out"

You can then email them this thread below, and tell them you almost have an Amex Centurion Card, that indeed will match the colour of your car.

That will impress them no end I bet. ;)

(Stupid post, but I need to reach 100 before I can post in OMNI ... off to starwood to post something dumb :D )

And if all that fails I bet you'll (one day) have fun in OMNI. ^
