Starwood Preferred Guest - Comped Gold or (another) SPG.com glitch?

Okay, so I was ITT Gold/Starwood Gold for 13 years running when my previous employment bit the dust big time, curbing my usual travel habits 2 years ago hence I dropped back to basic with Starwood opting to keep another scheme going instead.
Travel habits started to return late last year with a run of stays in Oct/Nov/Dec, but still under the qualifying 10 for Gold level. (Happy with Gold mainly for the 4pm checkout - most flights from Northern Hemisphere back here to home are evenings, so it's a much welcomed perk). Have now dropped the other scheme and plan on coming back to Starwood.
So I log in today to check some properties/specials out for a trip coming up in March, and I get a "Welcome Al B - Gold Preferred Guest".
I've searched all posts since late December, but see nothing. Is this another infamous Starwood.com/SPG.com glitch or has there been some form of comping/upgrading to Gold going on ?? Anyone else had this happen ??
Nothing in the mail from SPG (as in new card or whatever) and with the glitches one sees in SPG.com/Starwood.com you can appreciate my scepticism !!

All sorted - received an SPG e-mail this morning basically stating I'd been "selected" for complimentary Gold this year, with a nice little bonus earner kicker as part of the deal.
One wonders if there is a lack of premium members this year or if my past history of stays had anything to do with it? Strange indeed.
I'll happily take it, but still intrigued none the less.

I'm waiting for a message from a PLT about how pi###ed they are that they didn't get selected from this promotion....

Zero nights for SPG so far this year, may not make it to Platinum by the end of the year. I certainly wouldn't mind an email from SPG comping me for platinum status expiring in 02/07! :D
