Im trying to decide where to stay in New York for when I go.

I've been told the W-NY is nice and the W-Court is really nice. The difference is at the court I can get a "Spectacular" room where as at the NY I can only get a "Wonderful" room. I'm trying to base my decision on whats near by (terms of night life, seeing stuff and shopping). I am also need a decent room to impress cause people will be prepartying in my room before we go out. Anyway some help would be greatly appreciated... anyone know which one is newer?

These are probably the two Ws that are furthest from traditional Manhattan nightlife (theatre, Village clubs/restaurants). The Court (and it's preferable neighbor, IMHO), the Tuscany are smack dab in the center of Midtown, just a couple of blocks from Grand Central, so the transport situation is good. It's always been a little less good on the East side, though the 4/5/6 provides pretty good subway service near the W-NY.

Personally, I like the Court/Tuscany for its central, but relatively quiet location. They're all reasonably modern, but, I believe, all 'conversions'.

Tuscany. Huge rooms. Court are not as big, not as nice.

W-NY on Lex & 50th is like sleeping in a cubicle. Your party will be very intimate if it involves more than 2 people...

Definately do the Court but Tuscany if you can. I would stay away from the main W NY (Lexington) by all means although the bar (Whiskey Blue) downstairs there is pretty good on Thursdays and somewhat on weekends.

I'm afraid these hotels are soaring beyond my reach. Now they top over $300 per night for an upcoming trip in August.

I used to love the stay 4 nights get 2 free. But now that they've changed that to 100% nonrefundable, that's a $1200 cancellation penalty.

I've stayed at both the Court and the Tuscany. Tuscany is nicer, seems more 'exclusive'. Haven't done the W New York, and never would after reading the comments on tripadvisor.com. However, I don't think that W hotels as a group are specially compelling at the moment. There seems to be a lack of investment at their properties. The Court and the Tuscany are both converted from former apartment blocks. The bathrooms can be very small, depending on which room you get. The rooms streetside in the Court are noisy. The decor is looking somewhat tired and dated already.

Friends of mine just stayed at The Giraffe (not a W)- I've actually seen the rooms there, but not stayed yet. They loved it, and the ratings on tripadvisor are excellent. I'm staying there next time I'm in Manhattan.

I agree with the comments above that you will generally find that the Tuscany's rooms are the largest. If you are looking at being in the center of everything, I would recommend the W Times Square. Assuming you can get a corner suite overlooking the bright signs of Times Square you will have a great pre-party. The bar in the lobby also is a great place to have a drink.

One problem with the Tuscany is the limited food service and bar area. I would recommend you use the bar at the Court if you want a drink.

Lastly, the W on Lexington does have a few great suites on the top two floors. I have had several suites that were over 2,000 sq ft and had 1,000 sq ft outdoor decks (with chairs and tables) overlooking Lexington.

I personally stay at the W Times Square these days. It is clearly one of the most happening hotels in NYC.
