Stayed at St. Regis in Midtown last week and asked for points amenity. Told no points. Okay, fine. But I never got any other amenity. Was I supposed to?
Just curious...
Thanks.
(Hotel was fine otherwise except for the bizarre 70's high tech radio/phone that took me about half an hour to figure out how to turn off).

You were supposed to get a locally chosen Platinum welcome amenity, which normally is waiting in the room for you when you check in.
Not sure what it would be at this particular property, but if you got nothing at all, you should probably report it to Hotel Customer Service. 800-328-6242.

St. Regis Century City gave a fruit plate with really bizarre fruit. I wanted points.

Monarch Beach gave me nothing.

Aspen gave me my particular choice of Points last year - so it seems to be a property-specific problem.

As I posted elsewhere, I had to specifically request the local "amenity" at monarch beach which consisted of two bottles of water and three small apples. In my opinion, not worth the hassle of bothering the front desk. I am new to the plat. program, but seems you are treated much better at westins or sheratons as a plat., than St. Regis properties.

St. Regis LA used to give me several pieces of (unripe) fruit and a small bottle of water.
just another (small) reason why i disliked that property. in my several stays i don't think i ever got a single piece of fruit that didn't need a week in a brown bag or another week on the vine.
st regis nyc didnt explicitly give us one, i assume that the free coffee/tea in the mornings and at checkin qualified. also the free plate of fruit and chocolates
st regis houston gave use a plate of chocolates, pecan clusters, and chocolate covered strawberries...too bad they cleaned the plate out the next day even though we had not finished them all

Also, got nothing at Monarch Beach this past weekend
I did not receive a Platinum Amenity at Monarch Beach, but my daughter got a nice amenity. The front desk presented her with a sand pail and a small stuffed octopus. I assume this is a gift for all children who stay there, but I appreciated it more than I would have fruit/water.

This one is a sore spot for me. Staying at five star hotels, one should expect a welcome amenity as a matter of course, so as a Platinum I would expect something extra special. But alas, my experience has been that most St. Regis hotels do not offer a welcome amenity to everyone (maybe the marketing gurus should stay at a few Ritz-Calrtons and figure out that a welcome amenity is standard fare at luxury hotels), and that the Platinum amenity, when delivered, is pretty lame - like the bottle of Evian and strange fruit that the Century City property offered up.
Compare this to my stay at the NY Penninsula (directly across the street from the St. Regis), where I was presented with a selection of about 8 different varieties of bottled waters, as well as truffles; the Ritz-Calrton Central Park, where I have received amenities tailored to my visit - i.e. when travelling with my children balloons, milk and cookies were delivered, with their first names spelled out in chocolate on the plate, and on another visit with my wife it was champagne and truffles. The Four Seasons in Atlanta sent up pop corn and sodas for the kids, and fancy lemonade and cholocates for my wife and I, and then when we went out they came and decorated the bath room for the kids, leaving confetti, sponges spelling out the kids names, and rubber ducks. I can go on and on, but the gist of this is that I'm accustomed to some nice welcome amenities simply by virtue of staying at a top tier hotel, but when I visit St. Regis properties, even as a Platinum, I either get nothing, or get something that does not compare favorably to what the chains that St. Regis arguably wants to compete with offer ALL their guests.
