We are planning to visit California in August.

We are looking at redeeming a few nights, and considering Level 1 sites for value.

Four Points in Fullerton / Anaheim is listed in this category. Has anyone stayed there? Comments?

We are looking at Sheraton San Diego Hotel, Mission Valley for our time in San Diego....any suggestions on this choice?

In San Francisco, woulkd the Fishermans Wharf location have any distinct advantages over the Sunnyvale location?

Thanks

FlyerTalk has a sometimes useful "Search" feature that might help you. From within this forum, Search on "fullerton" and you'll find many existing and recent reviews. Same may be obtainable at the other properties you request info on.

You may find this Search feature valuable, as many FlyerTalkers who have already taken the time to post their reviews, will not re-post their review every time someone else asks the same question.

It also allows you to post more specific questions in an already existing thread on the property, which makes the feature even more useful and easier to use for future searchers.

Welcome To FlyerTalk, BTW!

Yeah, SF Wharf is a great location, especially for a tourist and Sunnyvale is one hour away from SF, has only industry, and sucks for a vacation. No offense to any Silicon Valley people.

The Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf is a dump. The only nice thing is you're located in the middle of Fisherman's Wharf. Parking I think is $30 a day there and street parking is difficult to find. They have few suites there so if you're a Platinum member at most you'll probably get club level access. I've seen the rooms on the club level on multiple occasions and they're showing age.

The Sheraton Sunnyvale is probably going to be a ghost town as it's in the middle of an industry park near Lockheed Martin and Juniper networks. Parking shoudl be free here. Platinums get upgraded to the club level which offers free high speed. The lounge access that you would get during the week probably will be closed. The rooms here are ok, but nothing special.

My unsolicited recommendation: consider the Cat 2's. Typically, by looking at the 2's, you'll see a wider range of interesting properties, and you are only ponying up an extra 1k per night to get 'em.

These numbers might be in the process of moving a bit, but there are about 4 Cat 1's in California. There are about 17 Cat 2's. Still a lot of 4Points, but a few Sheratons and obviously more cities/areas to choose from.

Of course!

Location, location, location.

If you want to visit San Francisco, stay in San Francisco.

If you want to visit Sunnyvale (some 40 miles from San Francisco), stay there.

'Nuff said. ;)

Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf = walking distance to pinnipeds.
Sheraton Sunnyvale = not walking distance to pinnipeds.

End of discussion. ;)

I wouldn't call The Fishermans Wharf by any stretch a dump. Certainly not Starwoods finast or the most updated property either. But an acceptable property and choice in a great location with close access to all the major tourist and business centers. The hotel and its perfectly fine staff have always gone out of it's way for myself and my family on any rate paid.
A mere mention of your favorite room type and they try to accomodate your preference before or at check in.The club breakfast is satisfactory and usually available to all Platinums or those that pay for club access. Platinum upgrade to suites as always are based on availabilty on the day of arrival. I have had a number of such upgrades at the property in the past.
The hotel has some very good revenue value rates online at SPG.Com
I would highly consider the Sheraton Fishermans Wharf on points or revenue
Or perhaps any of the other fine Starwood properties in SF including The Palace or the W...........

In San Diego I like the value of Sheraton San Diego Suites,W(second),Westin Horton (third) Some may prefer the W #1 but I look at value too.
Have a great trip in whatever your choice of lodging ends up to be!
Cheers

Just an FYI, there are times when the Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf is asking for more money than the W, Palace, or Westin. I know it's an availability issue, but just thought I'd throw it out there that I've seen on numerous occasions where the rate at the Sheraton FW was more than the other SF SPG properties.

Thanks for the heads up.
In that case no competition :)
I'll have to consider myself very lucky. I have been very fortunate to get great rates in the last 12 months between 105 and 129 per night.
As they say timing is everything!

For reference, I've seen the Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf in the 199-209 range when the W and such is about 179!

I've stayed in all of them. The Sheraton in Fulleton is in a industrial area and at night it's a ghost town-it's no frill's. If I were you I would stay at the Sheraton Anaheim on south Disneyland drive-much much better. Sheraton Mission Valley it's ok and is centrally located however, if you are a platinum member the Sheraton suites on A st is a better value with free buffet for 2 and free self parking. If your going to San Fran...stay in San Fran! The hotel you mentioned is ok however, you may want to think about upgrading and staying at the W or the Palace hotel.

How far is this Sheraton from the downtown/Gaslamp district? Is it accessible with public transit? Last time I was in San Diego I stayed at the Wyndham, from which it was easy to walk/take a bus everywhere. Mission Valley seems to be a little out of the way according to the map.

Sorry...yevlash2 I gave you info on Sheraton suites. The mission valley Sheraton public tansit is better now because you can catch the trolley within about 2 minutes from the hotel. It will take you downtown among other places.
