I booked our last night there for next Saturday. On trip Advisor, one posted that it is unlike other Ritz Carltons and not worth a stay there at $250 a night. Anyone care to comment? Appreciate it!

IMO, I think it's the area that makes it different. As the sprawl of Phoenix moved toward Scottsdale, so did the finer hotels, shopping and restaurants. This area of Phoenix is more of a business area, and certainly not as new and exciting as the Scottsdale area. $250 does seem kind of high, especially on a weekend.

In terms of the decor and service, it is actually very much like other RCs, which makes it a little formal by Phoenix standards. It is located in a business and residential district, only a short drive from unique restaurants and shopping, and within a block or two of chain restaurants and shopping (Biltmore Fashion Park is directly across the street). It has no grounds to speak of, unlike other local luxury hotels, such as The Phoenician, Biltmore and Royal Palms, each of which is within 3 miles of the RC. The airport is about a 20 minutes drive (about $25 by cab). This high season in Phoenix, so even on weekends, the higher-end hotels and resorts are likely to be at $300 or more.

Of the probably ten Ritz Carlton's I've stayed at, I would rank it as one of the two most undistinguished (other being the Ritz in Clayton/St. Louis). Not bad mind you, just not impressive.

I've stayed at the PHX one twice, both times paid $195 in November (Corp. rate).

Decor and quality are typical Ritz Carlton. It is certainly not a resort hotel, but probably one of the best business hotel options in Phoenix. One drawback is the outragous $20+/night parking charge.

You have to look at the rates in comparison to the options, especially this time of year. The Ritz is $250 - $300/night. The Phoenician, Fairmont and even Hyatt Gainey Ranch are all over $400. The Hilton in Scottsdale is $200+.
