I recently signed on for the plat challenge with AA and have changed my ONEW4 booking to fly with AA where possible. Problem is now half of the flights are still showing on the QF website under my bookings and nothing appears at all on AA.
What do I need to do to ensure my FF miles end up with AA and not QF and let me see the bookings on AA.com ??

Whom did you book with ? www.checkmytrip.com
Have you had your AA Membership inserted into the PNR ? [And the QF one has been removed]
**You might want to update your FT program list to include AA**

I booked through trailfinders, can see everything online correct on their website but nothing in AA.com

I got my PNR off the TA but its a 6 letter reference and VMT wants an 8 digit reference ?!?!?!?!?!!?
Also I logged into AA.com and searched on my reservations using the PNR provided and it bought up my booking and allowed me to choose seats, only problem is that it is missing all my flights (about 7) that are not with AA (eg QF, BA and SA)
Any ideas ?

Amadeus Check my Trip (https://www.checkmytrip.com/ITN/LoginServlet?SITE=ITN&LANGUAGE=US) happily works with 6 character references. Are you sure you are not confusing this with Galileo ViewTrip (https://www.viewtrip.com/en-us/ViewTrip.asp) or something else? Probably not the Galileo resource as Viewtrip only takes 6 characters as well.

The booking reference (which is likely what they gave you) is unique to the system in which it was booked, and there are at least three major systems in use - Armadeus (used by Qantas), Galileo (used by many TA's including Amex) and Sabre (ised by AA). Armadeus bookings can be seen here (http://www.amadeus.net/home/new/index.htm), Galileo bookings can be seen here (https://www.viewtrip.com/en-US/ViewTrip.asp). I don't have the Sabre booking view site.
When an itinerary is booked, the relevant information is pushed from the booking system to the reservation system used by the airline on which the flight is booked. That often means the connecting flight details are also pushed through to the airline in aware of the connections. But the entire itinerary is not pushed unless it is relevant to the airline.
Certain changes to the booking result in a fresh push to the airline systems. Some changes do not require a data push.
So depending on which system the TA used to book the itinerary, and what information was pushed to the QF (Armedeus) and AA (Saber) systems, you may see all sorts of different information. You can try entering the booking reference the TA provided into both of the links above and see if either can retrieve the information.

What do I need to do to ensure my FF miles end up with AA and not QF and let me see the bookings on AA.com ??
(1) Log into your QF account , go to my bookings and note down your booking reference
(2) Phone QF and ask for your QF number to be removed from your booking
(3) go to www.checkmytrip.net and check your flight details using the reference number from (1) . If you see an entry saying something like
"Frequent flyer: Qantas Airways - QF0000000"
then return to step (2)
(3) Phone QF and ask for your AA number to be added to your booking
(4) go to www.checkmytrip.net and check your flight details using the reference number from (1) . If you see an entry saying something like
"Frequent flyer: Qantas Airways - AA000000"
then all is fine
If you see anything else including
"Frequent flyer: American Airlines - AA000000"
the phone QF and ask for it to be re-entered properly and then return to (4)
Unless you booked the flights through American Airlines, then you will not be able to see the flights on the AA system. AA uses a totally different system. If you book the flights through AA, then you will be given an AA reference which you can use to locate the bookings within aa.com
If steps (1) to (4) are completed successfully, then there is no reason why you should not find your points credit automatically into your AA account.

Thanks NM
I actually spoke to the TA again and they provided me with 3 PNR's, one works and shows the QF/BA flights and the others don't work at all (guess they must be the sabre booking refs), either way as long as all the flights end up on my AA FF rather than QF FF Im not fussed where I can see it.

Another itinerary checker:- https://www.virtuallythere.com
Keep in mind that in the US, if your FF# does not match the metal of the carrier you're flying, you are likely to face increased harassment at the US security checkpoint due to idiotic "selection" of non-FF passengers, mandated by the TSA.
Long story short, you might want to make the switch before security if changing to a different FF program (e.g. flying QF out of LAX and wanting to credit the miles to AA) or before checking in if you are flying AA and your QF number is still in the PNR.

BronzedAussie, Dave Noble has given the definitive answer, but you may like to read my recent experience (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=386277) where I had a problem with BA points posting to my QF account even though I tried to get them into my AA account.
That thread also has a link to my earlier thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=372932) where I was doing pretty much exactly what you are. You may be interested in some of the replies in that thread.
Good luck (especially with BA).

Thanks Alan (and everyone else), flights are showing correctly on qantas.com and aa.com but will check out the other itinery sites to make sure :-)
