Newsstand - CNN: What irritates Business TravelersView Full Version : CNN: What irritates Business Travelers businesstraveler Jan 31, 05, 2:47 pm http://www.cnn.com/2005/TRAVEL/01/27/bt.irritation.survey/index.html FYI Michael http://www.biztrip.com Morrissey Jan 31, 05, 3:26 pm When it comes to annoying business travelers, a number of topics top the list, including those who stuff oversized pieces of luggage into overhead lockers... Oh, that is rich. Business travelers are usually the worst offenders when it comes to oversize carry-ons. PTravel Jan 31, 05, 3:49 pm For what it's worth, the CNN site has a (clearly non-scientific) poll. Currently, over-size luggage leads with 38%, followed closely by screaming children at 33%. I rarely see business travelers with oversize luggage -- at least in my experience that seems to be almost the exclusive province of the casual flyer. ByrdluvsAWACO Jan 31, 05, 4:17 pm I rarely see business travelers with oversize luggage -- at least in my experience that seems to be almost the exclusive province of the casual flyer. Huh? Take any morning UA flight out of SFO. When I boarded my first/last Ted flight in Dec, I swear that most of the plane were business pax. This includes their rollaboards taking up half of the bins. PTravel Jan 31, 05, 5:13 pm Huh? Take any morning UA flight out of SFO. When I boarded my first/last Ted flight in Dec, I swear that most of the plane were business pax. This includes their rollaboards taking up half of the bins. Well, sure -- business travelers don't check bags, as a rule. However, the objection was to "oversize luggage," which I took to mean, luggage larger than permitted as carryon and/or that wouldn't fit in the bin. My experience is that business travelers know the carryon rules inside and out, and always bring legal-sized carryons in compliance with the airlines' requirements. Casual travelers, on the other hand, seem to be the ones who bring huge backpacks, oversize rollaboards, a plethora of shopping bags, and other detritus that doesn't fit in the overhead and doesn't comply with airline rules regarding either size or quantity. ByrdluvsAWACO Jan 31, 05, 5:40 pm Ok, my misunderstanding was not reading the word "oversize". Still, biz pax don't help the situation any. Morrissey Jan 31, 05, 10:10 pm Sorry, I see LOTS of business travelers carrying oversized carryon bags. They would rather get leprosy than check a bag. Efrem Jan 31, 05, 10:13 pm ...My experience is that business travelers know the carryon rules inside and out, and always bring legal-sized carryons in compliance with the airlines' requirements... "Legal-sized," as defined by either airline policies or those "baggage sizer" frames? Not in my experience, for myself or other business travelers I see. Both are smaller than necessary. We ignore them. "Able to fit into a standard overhead rack," on the other hand? Of course they can. We know what can happen if they don't. PTravel Feb 1, 05, 10:42 am "Legal-sized," as defined by either airline policies or those "baggage sizer" frames? Not in my experience, for myself or other business travelers I see. Both are smaller than necessary. We ignore them. "Able to fit into a standard overhead rack," on the other hand? Of course they can. We know what can happen if they don't. The sizers are ridiculous, I agree. As for complying with airline policies, I simply assume that all the smaller rollaboards do -- perhaps you're right, and they don't. So, I'll amend what I wrote to, "able to fit in the standard overhead bin." USA_flyer Feb 1, 05, 3:16 pm For what it's worth, the CNN site has a (clearly non-scientific) poll. My vote goes for screaming kids, it's worse than nails across a blackboard. PTravel Feb 1, 05, 3:41 pm over sized baggage once stowed can be ignored. My vote goes for screaming kids, it's worse than nails across a blackboard. I'm with you, but be warned -- this is a sensitive (and perennial) topic on FT. doctall41 Feb 3, 05, 12:30 pm Huh? Take any morning UA flight out of SFO. When I boarded my first/last Ted flight in Dec, I swear that most of the plane were business pax. This includes their rollaboards taking up half of the bins. "Most" (greater than 50%) of the pax were business pax. They took up "half" (50%) of the bins. Sounds like they used less than their share of bin space, leaving half the bin space for less than half the leisure pax. AllanJ Feb 3, 05, 5:16 pm over sized baggage once stowed can be ignored. Not if passengers having properly sized baggage have nowhere to put theirs. This quote relates to the screaming children issue, and I second PTravel -- for you own good and to avoid being called (gasp!) childless, intolerant, ignorant, condescending, self righteous and, of all things, selfish(!!) -- best to leave the topic of screaming children alone. However, it is interesting that 33% (admittedly, in a nonscientific poll) cited this. There must be a real "silent majority" out there when this topic is raised on FlyerTalk!! xyzzy Feb 3, 05, 7:00 pm Oh, that is rich. Business travelers are usually the worst offenders when it comes to oversize carry-ons. :rolleyes:Business travelers object to others with a large quantity of large carryons because they want the space for themselves. Why else would we complain when elite preboarding doesn't take place :) PhlyingRPh Feb 3, 05, 7:08 pm I'm a business traveler, but what annoys me most is other business travelers who are rude and condascending to those who don't travel often. I see plenty of people trying to overtake a woman traveling with her young children as she walks down a jetway, but very few will offer to help her with her bags, etc. |
