View Full Version : Earned Rental Day transferrable?

Hi,

My dad gave me a gift coupon for an earned free rental day (PC155046), and I booked a car online for a day next week. I just read the fine print on the back, though, and am worried.

Specifically, buried in the third paragraph is: "Certificates are non-transferrable."

Are they really going to turn me away or charge me the full rate if I go to pick up my car (with the original coupon)? Do they actually check up on these things? My dad has been a gold club member forever, and he seems to think I can use it (since there is no name on the coupon), but I don't want to be in for a surprise.

Thanks!

i gave a PC155046 coupon to my father a year or two ago. he had no trouble using it -- one day rental, upgraded to mountaineer at RNO -- for about $3.

i noticed that my most recent coupon *does* have my name on it -- i guess they don't want me giving them away any more....

The coupons you mentioned are nameless and they are printed without serial numbers. Even if they wanted to, there is no way they could trace it back to the person who received it. I have used other peoples' coupons in the past and many of my coworkers and friends have used mine without any issues.

Seat1A was likely referring to the vouchers you get when you redeem ZE1 points when he said "i noticed that my most recent coupon *does* have my name on it -- i guess they don't want me giving them away any more...."
To the best of my knowledge, these are the only free rental vouchers issued by Hertz that have the account holder's name on them.

Thanks for y'all's help. I had a minor hiccup, but everything worked out.

When I got to the DTW Hertz location, they agent asked who (my boyfriend or me) was the gold club member. I told her that my dad was the gold club member and he gave me the ticket. She argued with me (said that they only the gold club member can use the coupon), but I stayed polite and told a white lie about having used these coupons before. She said that previous agents may not have been following the rules... mentioned that I could speak to her manager. I agreed to speak to the manager, but the agent ended up calling the manager on the phone (she was in a glass office just off the customer area) and explained the situation. The manager told her to let me use the coupon.

My bf and I got a Grand Marquis (aka grandpa car) for 64 cents!! We were happy, but I guess I'm still not sure that it'll work next time.

Timetotravel, maybe it would be better if I was a gold club member (but I'm not 25 yet...)? Maybe I can get a membership through my company. You said you've used other people's coupons and had people use yours, but was everyone a gold club member? It is good to know that they don't track the coupons... I kind of thought they might look up your award history and see if you actually did have a coupon sent out.

Any more recent experiences with transferability of 155046 free day coupons with someone else's name on them?
