Despite JetBlue's reputation for good customer service, I'm not impressed with their communications during this weekend's snowstorm at their JFK hub.
#28 was to have left TPA today (1/23) for JFK at 17:00, but is delayed. Currently, the delay is over 4.5 hours and counting. Gate agents at TPA are stating this is due to two air cargo aircraft skidding off the runway at JFK. Yet, the Port Authority (of New York & New Jersey) websites, local news agencies, local newspapers only mention that one aircraft that skidded off the runway, and that was yesterday-- not today.
Details from JetBlue as to the reason for the delay or expected JFK arrival times are virtually impossible to come by-- despite the fact that JFK is open for business and the aircraft for flight #28 is at the gate in TPA.
Phone calls to JetBlue get the "due to heavy call volumes, visit Jet Blue website" whereupon the website flight tracker lacks details and asks one to contact the airline for further information.
Talk about circular references!
No very impressive. :(

A Polar air 742 ran off runway 4R and into an arrestor pad yesterday (and is still not removed AFAIK). Today a Fedex plane skidded of 4R while attempting a high speed turn-off. JFK went to using just one of it's 31/13 runways while the other was having snow removed. Delays topped 8 hours.

Are you kidding me? I think your idea of JFK being "open for business" was slightly different than the actual situation. The entire Northeast was shoveling out from a blizzard, most of those airports had been closed for an entire day, JFK had TWO aircraft (and it was two) that skidded off the runway, hundreds of flights are trying to squeeze into the few slots that air traffic control is giving them once the airport did open... and you wondered the "reason for the delay"???!!!!????!!!!
Come on people, I know we all have important things to do and we expect to get there ontime when we buy a ticket, but there are some things you can't really blame the airline for. Sounds like they gave you good info, it just wasn't what you wanted to hear or believe.

I like to use
http://www.fly.faa.gov/
to get the low-down. The map is great, and if you click "Advisories Database" under "Products" you can get an event log. Neither the airlines nor the media ever seem to report airport operational issues accurately. This has nothing to do with JFK or JetBlue specifically.
The bottom line is that at no time was JFK closed. However, they were operating for a while with a single runway, giving them an arrival rate of 20 aircraft per hour, substantially lower than they do under normal operation.

Jetblue has all but 17 flights that don't go to or leave from Boston, NYC, or IAD. (LGB-OAK, LGB-LAS, LGB-FLL, LGB-SLC) 270 flights multiplied by 145 average. Cut them some slack. Knowing Jetblue, they probably handed out travel certificates to all of the people.
On a side note, I was watching the local NYC news, and they all made the same comments. Almost all of the flights are cancelled, but don't worry, there are no delays.
