Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Does CX have SWUs? If so are they transferable?View Full Version : Does CX have SWUs? If so are they transferable? TravelGuy1965 Jan 22, 05, 6:09 pm Does CX have SWUs? If so are they transferable? Thanks. christep Jan 22, 05, 8:23 pm Assuming that I have understood correctly that an SWU is some form of upgrade voucher given to FF programme members for renewal etc., then No. I believe that the only way of upgrading a CX flight is with AsiaMiles (or money of course). bagold Jan 22, 05, 9:13 pm no... CX has no SWUs (System Wide Upgrades). Only Asia Miles can be used. TravelGuy1965 Jan 22, 05, 9:40 pm Thanks - how many miles for an upgrade from coach to Business class? christep Jan 22, 05, 9:51 pm Between 15,000 and 50,000 one way (or 25,000-85,000 roundtrip), depending on the distance. See the chart here: http://www.asiamiles.com/am/1,,83101_82761_eng,00.html Chiangi Jan 22, 05, 9:52 pm It depends on which route you will be flying. Please see: http://www.asiamiles.com/am/1,,83101_82761_eng,00.html flyaow Jan 22, 05, 9:59 pm They do have a form of system wide upgrades that can be issued by customer service for flight irregularities when traveling in a paid premium cabin. They generally are valid for a one-class, one-sector upgrade based upon availability at check-in. Normally they are not transferable. However sometimes they issue them with a blank spot where the name goes so you might find some floating around. Cheers! TravelGuy1965 Jan 22, 05, 10:05 pm Wow - looking at the link you can apply the upgrades to some other carries (such as AA) as long as one segment is CX. I wish AA did the same. Any thoughts on changing to CX as primary OW carrier and having AA mile posted to CX account - perhaps better to move to OW forum. But maybe not. Between 15,000 and 50,000 one way (or 25,000-85,000 roundtrip), depending on the distance. See the chart here: http://www.asiamiles.com/am/1,,83101_82761_eng,00.html Wasabi Tofu Jan 22, 05, 10:36 pm Wow - looking at the link you can apply the upgrades to some other carries (such as AA) as long as one segment is CX. I wish AA did the same. You may misunderstand. You can upgrade 'pure AA round trip segments' with Asiamiles. CX segment is not required. However, Oneway upgrade is available for CX only. TravelGuy1965 Jan 22, 05, 10:56 pm Well - even better, right? With AA miles I don't see a way to upgrade CX purchased coach tickets at all. You may misunderstand. You can upgrade 'pure AA round trip segments' with Asiamiles. CX segment is not required. However, Oneway upgrade is available for CX only. Guy Betsy Jan 22, 05, 11:11 pm Before you get too excited, note that AA tickets must be booked in B, H and Y to be upgradeable using Asiamiles. Using CX flights - most fare types, and on BA, most fare types in economy, as long as the ticket is issued on an e-ticket (oh yes, AA too) , and the journey is roundtrip. It can originate anywhere. christep Jan 23, 05, 3:46 am And as an Elite on AAdvantage you will earn miles for AA coach flights twice as fast as you would earn AsiaMiles. So when you have done enough flights to earn the AsiaMiles to get the upgrade on AA that you desire you would have earned enough miles on AAdvantage to get the whole ticket for free (roughly - I know the award requirements aren't exactly the same between the two programmes). Plus you get automatic upgrades on domestic AA as an EXP, and your VIPs for international. Similarly with flights on CX if you are travelling in YBH you get twice as many miles with AAdvantage as with AsiaMiles. So if the bulk of your flying is on AA (and that is what you are trying to upgrade) then I see no reason to move to CX. For the few flights that you take on CX you are better off sticking with AAdvantage and booking them as full award tickets rather than trying to get to awards. The only reason to witch to MPC is if the bulk of your flying is on CX and you can make Diamond, which gets you guaranteed cheapest fare availability at 24 hours notice, plus better op-up chances, but earns you only (roughly) half as many miles as AA elite. christep Jan 23, 05, 3:47 am Before you get too excited, note that AA tickets must be booked in B, H and Y to be upgradeable using Asiamiles.Evidence for that statement? I have always worked on the basis that if it earns AsiaMiles then it is upgradeable using AsiaMiles. Earning classes for AA are: Y/B/C/G/H/K/L/M/N/Q+/R/S/V/W/X (+) Not transatlantic tkts originating in Europe. Guy Betsy Jan 23, 05, 7:20 am Evidence for that statement?
