Hi.
Have a quick question. My wife works for IBM and has a corporate rate code. I am travelling by myself and didn;t know if I can use her corp rate (non official biz rate).
I currently have travel agent rate, mid size eur 56/day.
IBM rate was Jag X-type for eur 19/day.
Rental loc VCE airport.
Any clue?

I doubt it's a problem as long as you don't get into an accident - just out of curiousity, what's the CDP? That's an amazing deal - I'd book it if I were you.

My wife has rented car using my corporate rate. I booked the car in my name then called Hertz to have my wife's name added on the reservation. She was renting in the United States, though, so was covered by our personal insurance. I'd be cautious about the insurance issues...many corporate contracts insure you only when renting on business travel, not for personal travel.
if you're just using the CDP for the price break then I'd say it's fine. if you're using it for insurance or other coverage then you're taking a risk if something happens. If hertz investigates the claim and finds out that it wasn't business travel or that you're not really part of the CDP coverage you may get stuck with the bill.
btw, that's a heck of a cdp - my corporate account doesn't give me any privileges on anything above a full size and there are never any price adjustments; just LDW and the ability to return anywhere without a one-way charge

I know that with my company, I am not allowed to use the corporate CDP on personal use. I am certain that I would be reprimanded harshly is my spouse used the corporate CDP. My company sets up the CDP plan that I use for business purposes only. As an employee, I am to abide by them. I am sure IBM has a similar policy. I would not jeopardize my standing with my company just to save a few dollars.

My company's CDP specifically states that it can be used for work or personal travel. When I travel & book on Hertz.com - there are the check-boxes that state this is for company travel & please quote the rate my company has negotiated - if its for personal travel, you just leave those unchecked & the insurance isn't included & the rate differs. I'm surprised that your companies don't allow you to use the CDP's for personal travel - I feel it would be in their best interest - the more rentals they have, the higher the volume discount they may be able to negotiate - of course, that may have to do with the size of the companies. My company has hundreds of locations around the world & they do a lot of business travel so there is already a significant volume of Hertz business being generated.

Thanks to all for the response.
I went ahead and use travel agent cdp for this trip since it is on my company's expense.
The reason I wanted to use wife's cdp was because I can get a much better car without the higher cost (lower cost actually). Why not get better perks rather than suffer because my employer is smaller. Anyway, I figure we would test with wife's cdp, see if they check ID, and fin out onc and for all.
I will pm cdp to those who ask. If you use it, please let me know if it worked.
thanks.
ps: IBM contract llows for personal/non-business use.

FWIW, I have never, not once, been asked for corp ID when renting from Hertz with my company's CDP (for, like, seven years). I don't think you need to worry about this at all.

hnechets, wished you'd said that earlier. I still appreciate the info though.
I just returned from my VCE trip, got a Citroen Picasso (kinda a cross between station wagon and a minivan). And spent eur 466 in 3 days using travel link cdp... :(
will definitely use wife's cdp next time...

I know about IBM's contract and it does apply for the EMPLOYEE's personal use -- not the spouse or other family members. Using a CDP you are not entitled for would probably mean very little unless you are in an accident; you are almost never asked for ID, but on those items where the company has negotiated included LDW, etc (like IBM) I'm sure if there was an accident the LDW would not apply, let alone if there would be other punitive charges.
