US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-2005 America West merger) - A change for bonus miles for preferred members.

On the US Airways web-page I noticed an important change of the rules for awarding bonus miles to status members. All Lufthansa flights are no longer present on the list of flights eligible for bonus miles for both Silver and Gold members.

I hope I am wrong on this. Any comment?

I don't think there is a need for it since US is part of the *A now. If your silver you will get 50% and gold you will get 100% on all *A carriers. Now I do not know about flying and paying for full Y and business class tickets.

Just got off the phone speaking with DM agent. The change is true! No longer bonus miles for Preferred members on Lufthansa. This rule change also affects flights on Air Canada. What a pity! MP still offers them on the transatlantic LH flights.

This is very confusing because then that would go against the *A rules. Is this for all classes? Or are you all talking about the extra 150% bonus and the 200% bonus?

This has nothing to do with the class of service bonus. It remains the same. The change affects the bonus miles awarded to Preferred Silver 50%, Gold and Chairman's P. 100% bonus miles that up until now were awarded on both Lufthansa and Air Canada flights. Those bonuses are now gone! They want us to fly across the pond only on US Airways or United!

Never mind. I just went to the *A website and there is no mention of the golds getting 100% and silvers 50%. I guess it was an agreement between LH and US. I thought it was all of *A but I was wrong.

But reading further you get bonus points on ANA as well if you fly with them.

I believe that on Singapore and Varig airlines, the elite bonus only applies to flights taken on the respective airlines- if you are silver or gold on SQ Kris Flyer, you only get the bonus if you fly Singapore, and not any other star airline. The same is true for Varig. US Airways could change the rule to not allow the elite bonus even on United flights if they wanted I suppose...

This month, I flew in "C" with LH.......and received the 200% bonus in my DM account. ^

AFAIK, US was the only Star Alliance carrier to offer the bonus to their (upper tier) frequent flyer program members taking ANY Star Alliance flight. For instance, an Air Canada mid or top tier member can only get a 30% bonus on certain Star carriers (IIRC BD, Thai, LH). That's it. US was very generous in this respect and continues to be, since the bonus still applies to all other Star carriers except LH and AC from what the OP posted. From what I remember, Caribbean Star/Sun miles also count to this bonus.

Was digging around on usairways.com and it looks like Caribbean Star and Caribbean Sun are gone as are most of the Star carriers. Now, the preferred bonus is only available on US, UA and ANA. :td: :td:

Man, that does stink.

I have an upcoming flight on United Metal, but issued as a Lufthansa codeshare.

Do you think I will still get the bonus?

Depends on when the new rules take effect (unless they already have). If you are flying using the UA flight number, then you'll probably get the bonus. If you used the LH flight number when booking, then probably not.

Man, that does stink.

I think in the general case, you get miles based on the operating carrier. So likely, you will get the bonus, but do post and let us know what happened!

Took an AC flight on 1/28/05, miles posted today (1/31/05) with the preferred bonus.

Flight was ticketed on an as AC number and metal, but was on US ticket stock.

LH Flight on LH Metal - still received 100% Chairman Bonus
UA flight on UA Metal - still received 100% Chairman Bonus

Still looks good to me.......

I took four different trips on three *A airlines in January and February and always got the 100 % CP bonus.
Airlines involved were LH; SK(SAS) and TG(Thai).
Luckilly there still is a bonus. :D

delayed posting to cedric:

"AFAIK, US was the only Star Alliance carrier to offer the bonus to their (upper tier) frequent flyer program members taking ANY Star Alliance flight."

Actually AC offered 100% bonus on all Star Alliance earned status miles up until 2004. This year the rules have changed and you have to pick a bonus earning package. Even if you pick the right package, AC only gives 100% on base miles (used to be on all status miles including COS bonuses) for AC metal flights and 25% bonus on base miles for NH, BD and LH flights.

LH also offered 25% bonus on all Star Alliance earned status miles (including COS bonuses) up until 2003. Now it is only on LH, UA/US base miles.

See BlondeBomber's Star Alliance Comparison Chart (http://members.shaw.ca/deercroft/starall.html)

I find it a bit difficult to follow this thread. Could someone clarify that only UA, US and NH flights now earn the elite bonuses with US's program (ie no Caribbean Star/Sun or other Star Carriers)? Thanks.

That is correct. 100% for Chairman's and Gold and 50% for Silver.

Actually not correct. As I and others have posted, contrary to what the rules may say, it appears that CP are still recieving elite bonus on all partners. Ews3 and I received on Lufthansa in mid-February, eurousair received it on SAS and Thai..................

No wonder I am confused . . .

Maybe the official rules haven't been implemented (ie not until today, March 1 and start of new benefit year?)????

Seems US website is clear but not what they are doing with accounts.

I called the Gold desk today in regards to this as I have some US-coded, LH-operated flights coming up in a few weeks. They told me that as long as its US coded, I should still get the 100% mileage bonus. I made sure to ask about it being LH-operated. The agent told me to save my boarding passes & fax them in if need be. My flights are in a few weeks - so I guess we'll see what actually happens...

This is a disappointment.

So, anyone had a flight since 02/28?

Yes, flew AC on 3/2 and did not get the bonus.

In 2004 and earlier (many, many times) I have flown AC and received double DM as a US Gold (for BOS-YUL; 254 flight miles + 746 bonus miles).

Last week, for the first time, I received only 500 miles for the BOS-YUL segment (254 flight miles + 246 bonus miles).

Not a helpful "enhancement"!

Was the LH flight you took on LH ticket, or on a UA/US ticket.

The rules changed March 1.

It would be interesting to know though if you had a US tix (operated by LH) or a strict LH tix...

According to the CP page, only UA and ANA flights get the 100% CP bonus.

I am flying ANA from NRT to IAD in C under a UA flight number. Wonder if I'll get the 50% UA bonus for C class or the 25% ANA bonus.

PGHflyer
Mar 17, 05, 5:27 pm
Yeah, that is the big question - How "United" do United flights really need to be to keep the good bonus?

Surely someone has had a codeshare flight on non-US or non-UA metal since Feb 28.

Here is the official answer that I just received, for those who hadn't figured it out yet:

"If you purchase a ticket booked with a UA flight number and the flight is
operated by Lufthansa, you will not receive the tier bonus miles. The actual
aircraft you travel on determines the bonus miles. "

Well, on ANA I got the 100% CP bonus but only a 25% bonus for C, not the 50% you get on UA. This despite it being a UA flight number. FWIW, it posted as a ANA flight also.

Gotta agree. I prefer most other things about *, but in this regard, the US version of * is very annoying and may eventually drive me to another alliance. I could survive without some of the other carrier's giving me my preferred bonus, but losing Lufthansa is a killer.
