Travel Technology - Headset amplifiers (landline) for 2.5mm headsets?

I'm having trouble finding a product that seems perfectly sensible to me.

Here I am in the hotel room. I have with me my cellphone headset (normal 2.5mm plug.) I'm on the fringe of good cell coverage, or I want better than cell voice quality, or I want to use the data side of the phone during the call; whatever the reason, I'd much prefer to use the room phone.

Where are the amplifiers (device that goes between the base and the handset to interconnect a headset) that accept 2.5mm headsets? Every headset amplifier I can find is 1)wired for either of the two ancient WECO headset connectors, or 2)wired for only the manufacturer's funky headsets, and 3)big and bulky.

There seems to be a missing product niche for a travel-size amplifier that would let me reuse the headset I'm already carrying.

I'm not clear what you are looking for. Do you want something that will boost the RF power of your cellphone, or something that will amplify the audio sent to the headset? I haven't seen RF amplifiers for some time, though they may still be available as part of car kits (some car phones operate at the maximum 3 watts, as opposed to the 1/2 watt or less of pocket phones). If you want to amplify audio, get a 2.5 to 3.5 mm adapter at Radio Shack, and take a look at Airhead headphone amplifiers. I have one that I use with my MP3 player that's fantastic -- about the size of a deck of cards, fabulous sound and tons of power. I've never used it with my cellphone, but I'm pretty sure I could make myself permanently deaf with it if I tried to. ;)

Not exactly what you are looking for, but when I travel I often take with me a mini-telephone similar to this one:

It is about 3x4 cm (1x1.5 in) in size and has 3 jacks: Tel. line in/Tel. line out/2.5mm headset jack.
