Can anyone provide a recommendation on a hotel in Christchurch? I'm open to a B&B or something unique, even in the city. The only catch is that I won't have a car so my transportation options are slightly limited.
Thanks!

The NZ B&B book is quite good; used it in past trips to NZ over the last 10 years and found some excellent places to stay. You do have to buy it though http://www.bnb.co.nz/canterbury.html
A good choice for Christchurch given your transportation constraint is Apartment 37 B&B, see http://www.bnb.co.nz/canterbury/results/listing_details.html?lid=1339
If you want to stay at a commercial hotel, I'd recommend the Crowne Plaza.

I would second the recommendation of Crown Plaza. We spent two nights there in December and were pleased with the accomodation and also the buffet breakfasts which were included in the rate. Very central to restaurants and public transport.

A buck a night for parking? I don't know whether I'd be happy to be paying such a low rate or rolling my eyes because of the administrative hassle just to collect a dollar.
For what it's worth, I stayed at the Crowne Plaza for a night and was happy with the place. Most importantly, they were happy to check me in early around 8:30am. As others have said, it's in a good location and you can easily walk to just about any of the city attractions from there without a problem.
Not sure if the parking is only a buck though :)

Also stayed at Crown Plaza Christchurch and it is very nice. If you are Plat or Ambassador in Priority Club, they would likely upgrade you to the club level with access to the lounge with a good breakfast, evening drinks and free internet all day.
The George is very comfortable, has a marvelous restaurant, is across the street from wonderful Hagley Park, and flies an American flag!

I stayed at the Millennium hotel in Christchurch. It was nice. Very convenient location. I asked to receive AA miles for the stay - gave them my number at check-in - but did not post. Easily corrected with an email and then fax to Millennium customer service (faxing the receipt).

Stayed at the Crowne Plaza about 3 years ago when it was still branded as a Parkroyal. It was a little dated then but "may" have been refurbished since other posters have been quite positive about this property.
Locationwise, the Millennium is more centralised but I have not seen the rooms. However, based on my experiences at the Millennium in Queenstown and Rotorua, the rooms should be quite decent.
