Does Preferred membership begin on the date your status requirements are achieved and posted to your DM account or you wait until February the next year?
It's instant. I even got a bonus (50%) on the flight that I qualified for Silver on. Don't hold your breath for a card though - took about 6 weeks. It's in the system though.

Does Preferred membership begin on the date your status requirements are achieved and posted to your DM account or you wait until February the next year?
Status starts the day your threshold trip posts to your account. That said, if you need your new status for something immediate (ie: you qualify on the outbound and want your new status to help with the return leg upgrade 48 hours later), you can call and they'll force the post. Then at 1am east coast time, your status will be updated.
