I'm searching flights to Vegas that connect in ORD, but it appears from the system that the ORD-LAS leg is actually on US metal on an A320. When I cut out my starting leg and just searched from ORD, no United codeshare info shows at all.
Could this be true?

What dates are you looking at? I just checked a ord to las rt and they are all on airbus 320's, but have the U next to them referring to the fact they are United metal.

I was looking at March 17th.
I'm betting it's just a mistake in the listings, but I'd be thrilled to have something besides 757s going to LAS.

All I see is United's flights going ORD-LAS. Sorry to burst your bubble.

All I see on that date are United A320's. The US flight numbers are in the 5xxx and 6xxx range, which are UA codeshares. I also believe all ORD-LAS is Ted at this point as well.
I can't recall US ever flying anything other than 737-300's and the occasional -400 to ORD either, and never to a non-hub.

All United flights out of Las Vegas are now on Ted, unless you fly the EMB-120s to Palm Springs or Fresno. It's a sore point among LAS-based United elites... who can't use the First Class line to jump the horrendous security queues even if they wanted to.

This is one of the few cases where a US 757 actually looks better than the alternative in terms of upgrade chances.
Think about it:
US 757: 8 F seats
Ted A320: 0 F seats
Which one would you choose? :D

And I think I read here on FT that US is switching the LAS market to an airbus. Correct me if I am wrong but I do think I read that somewhere on here.

I think that is speculation, but what is not speculation is that US is going to have to reconfigure the 757s to add more F/C seats as they do not meet *alliance's guideline ratio's on coach to first seats. A couple of years ago when the 757s where configured to 24? seats, i was able to upgrade myself and 2-3 friends at the gate as a SP pretty regularly to Vegas since they could not fill first. So logic says US will probably put more 320's (12 seats in first) on these routes once the 757's are reconfigured. I believe I read they only have to put 16 seats in the 757's but not sure how many they actually reconfigure it to.
And yes there was a thread that had more details on all of this I remember reading a while back as well.

For some reason, the TED flights don't show up on USAirways.com with a U next to them -- so they look like US flights when in fact they are not.
I've been looking into some MCO flights recently and have come across the same situation.
I agree that when faced with F8 vs F0 the US 757 looks good. However, since most of us can't upgrade on UA without paying (and even then it isn't easy) I'd just assume take the Ted flight since there are more E+ seats.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the *A reconfiguration is an urban myth. I got this one at Roachfest direct from the horse's mouth. Heck, they were even considering dropping the number of FC seats on the 321s! <shudders>.

On Feb 5th, U adds a 319 to LAS to go along with the 757's. The 319's have 12 F seats, so the upgrade chance is just a tad better.

They were configured from 24 to 8 in 2003. The 757, when originally designed and marketed by Boeing to airlines, was for 5-6 rows of F to the left of the 2L door to give that 'private' cabin feel to the premium passengers without all the coach foot traffic trotting through their private little domain. But that's when domestic First class was something a little more unique. Many airlines embraced that over the last 20 years until recently when US decided to cut F back to 8. It's a travesty. AA, DL, CO and UA haven't done it....yet. And, don't look for it to change with US because, as pointed out, it's definitely not a Star requirement. That same arguement could imply they would be adding back true F service on the A330s in row 1.
The A320 has 16 seats(4 rows), which is nice when you get one, but there are far more 319's in the fleet. And, the A321 is primarily on the long transcon routes, so 26F seats is nice, but it wouldn't surprise me to see that cut back a few rows. It's apparent that the 757 - once the queen of the domestic skies, is now just a cattle car for tourists and leisure travellers.

Let's call this correctly....
US 757: 8 F Seats and a couple exit rows
Ted A320: 9 or so rows of E+, channel 9 plus Ted vision, whatever else Ted has.
About all that US has over Ted is free booze and the snack basket. If I had to choose I'd often take E+ on a short haul route... as long as the center seat was open.

The rumor of the re-reconfiguarion of the 757s due to some mythical *A requirement has been around since before Roachfest, which is probably why you remember reading it here. I was there as well, and hearing it from the VP of Scheduling and Revenue Management that there is
1. No truth to this rumor,
2. No such *A requirement, and
3. Thoughts to eliminate some F seats from the A321
is good enough for me. And based on prior experience, flight attendants are usually last to know of such changes.

You're right; one of the big perks to us US elites flying on UA is access to the E+ section. And in my experience, they've always blocked the middle seat for me when the flight is less than 100% full.
For longhauls to LAS, however, I'd still prefer playing the upgrade game on US metal (and an exit row seat as backup) over a 5-hour TED flight. Ted doesn't give full cans of soda and he doesn't show movies, though the buy on board meal selection and audio channels are better than what's offered on US.

The person I referred to was/is the Managing Director of MArketing and Revenue Development. The whole thing about the 757 was they were/are slated for leisure market service where the objective is to sell as many seats as possible because of the tight competition in those markets. In other words, if the fares are low you need to get more people on the plane to make it profitable.

Yes, but very..very..very rarely. About as regularly as you'll see a US 757/767 doing LAX these days. The 321 will do ORD 2xCLT In the summer...but nothing more than that.

Interesting - PHL is actually gaining a second LAS return redeye - the new 11:55pm A319 gets in a little after 7am, with the usual 757 that leaves just before 10pm still getting in just after 5am. Now I can hang out longer on the strip, get more sleep and still drag myself into work the next day ...
This looks like a good way to slightly increase the utilization of the 319 fleet.
