The naysayers are looking increasingly wrong. Reuters (http://yahoo.reuters.com/financeQuoteCompanyNewsArticle.jhtml?duid=mtfh1795 3_2005-01-14_23-53-01_wbt002289_newsml) has the news. Details are few, but this is obviously good news. Keeping the creditors happy has always been the biggest issue. Unless the IAM strikes, which doesn't appear likely, things are looking up.

Has always been the biggest issue? Methinks not.

When keeping your creditors happy becomes the biggest issue then your planning horizon is next week - which is obviously where US is now. The naysayers haven't been wrong about the company's direction in two plus years now, and its not over yet.

US has proved they aren't planning for next week by vastly revamping their schedules and expanding through FLL into Latin America and expanding the DCA hub.

Well, I thought my point was clear to anyone who has been reading this forum. The specific chant of the naysayers who said that the liquidation of U was imminent is what I was referring to. There has been an incessant droning of claims that the ATSB deadline was going to be the point at which the airline liquidated, or the GE financing would be pulled or that the unions would never reach agreements or that the judge would never grant the motions. One by one, the pieces are coming together.

Certainly, the airline would be in much better shape if they weren't in Chapter 11. Once you are, you do have to focus on managing the creditors. No one is under the delusion that the airline is about to return to profitability. The real issue for most of us is if they are going to make it through the cash-flow negative winter months. Increasingly, it appears that they will.

"Stick a fork in it" anyone?

The naysayers have been full of it for 3+ years. "Predicting" that the company would have tough times isn't exactly rocket science. It's more like stealing candy from a baby.

The naysayers have a lousy track record -- not a single one of the countless predictions that US would liquidate by X date has yet to come true. Not one. Quite a few of those proclamations were made with a great deal of noisy confidence.

Note: I draw a distinction between "naysayers" and curmudgeons... I like curmudgeons ;)

It has been quite the pleasure seeing the nay saying, poorly informed, self-appointed, interloping "experts" proved wrong.

The papers hopefully will find the new tack of long shot, underdog pulling it out.

I am sure the naysayers on here or on Airliners.net or which ever other board will come up with a new date. Find something new to say US Airways will fold because.....

Burn those miles quickly! THE SECOND COMING IS THIS SUNDAY! LOL!! ;)

Let the naysayers keep spinning so that everyone redeems all of their miles on business and first tickets this year. That way the schedule will be wide open for awards next year.
