Via travelaxe I booked three rooms, three nights at Sams Town, Las Vegas with placestay.com. One of the rooms I need to cancel but i note the cancellation policy is very vague...

Prepaid Hotel Transactions You agree that your credit card will be charged for the full cost of your reservation upon submitting your reservation request. The cost of your reservation is the total of: the indicated room rate multiplied by the number of days in your reservation, plus an additional amount for the tax recovery charges and our service fees. The tax recovery charge is assessed to recover the amount we pay to the hotel in connection with your reservation for sales and use, occupancy, room tax excise tax, value added and other similar taxes etc., and the balance of the additional amount is a fee we charge in connection with the handling of your reservation. Our service fee varies based on the amount and location of your reservation

They have not replied to the three e-mails I have sent in the last ten days regarding a clarification of the cancellation charges - obviously if there is no refund I'll keep the room rather than lose it.

Anyone used placestostay and can offer some advice?

Thanks.

S.

Booking hotel rooms on a prepaid basis is not the best thing to do in Las Vegas as this forecloses the possibility that the hotel will COMP YOUR ROOM if you gamble enough. That, and rooms booked directly on samstownlv.com are really cheap to begin with. The only exception would be the occasional $99 Venetian weeknight room on Priceline (see the Las Vegas hotel page on biddingfortravel.com). If you reserve the room directly from the hotel, resist any invitation from the hotel to prepay the room with a credit card. Unless the city is totally booked up, you will be able to reserve the room with a credit card "guaranteed reservation" just like any other hotel. When you arrive, a hold will be placed on your credit card but your card won't be charged until check-out. Then, obtain a casino player card, show it when you gamble (or insert it in the slot machines every time you play), and before you check out dial 0, ask to be connected to a casino host, and ask to have your play rated. Do this even if you don't plan to gamble much. It is always possible that you will hit a jackpot or a winning streak and give the club much more play than you anticipated, resulting in all of your hotel bill (including food) being comped. Oh, and always charge all meals to the room and tip in cash where possible. This is so that all your charges are on the room bill where they have the possibility of being comped. Good luck!
