I know this is a bizzare question, but does US still offer hot food to the First Cabin during mealtime on trans-con flights? It's been a while since i've done a trans-con on US (mostly on UA) and I was wondering if I would get a good meal or face the "In flight Cafe" (aka buy my food at LAX). Thanks for the help.

I flew a 6:30pm or so US flight from CLT to LAX on 11/20/04 and was served a hot meal in F. Whether that's considered "good" is an exercise for the reader. I believe it was some sort of chicken florentine or facsimile thereof.

Red eye from LAX to CLT (dep. 11:30pm) on 12/2/04 offered a ham sandwich.

Currently, US Airways only serves hot meals on transcontinental flights for breakfast and dinner, while for lunch you get a choice of two cold entrees. US Airways' transcontinental First Class is probably the worst of all airlines in the US at the present time, you don't even get glassware anymore. Dinner is usually a salad, a choice of 2 hot entrees and 1 cold entree, and a tiny piece of key lime pie for dessert.

That's terrible. There's no excuse (even bankruptcy) for letting their first class service deteriorate.

I'm taking the 8:15PM CLT-LAX flight on Sunday. I've already cleared. Is this considered a "dinner" flight, or will I just get a half sandwich?

I'm pretty sure the 8:15 p.m. flight is just a sandwich, unfortunately. Only earlier evening flights get the full hot dinner in First Class.

Last summer, I took the 8:00 or so PIT-LAX flight a couple of times when it still existed, and "dinner" in F was a turkey croissant.

Yes, after 7:30 pm, US Airways only serves a snack on transcontinental flights, which is usually a sandwich and a xoxo chocolate bar.

And pray you got a stocked snack basket or bring your own lunch. :(

Redeyes and flights after 8 PM to the west coast are all "snack" flights now. It used to be nice to take that 8:15 or so to SFO and get a full dinner. You could plan your day around it. No longer. You need to eat before you go now, else it's a long hungry trip to the left coast.

Some say 7:30 some say 8:00.

Effective Feb 6 there will be two "dinner" flights for CLT-LAX 1464 525P-748P and 519 735P-959P. Based on your experience, will the 735P flight be a snack or dinner?

And that's exactly what I got: A half sandwich, a tiny side of pasta salad, and an XOXO bar. But the FA was quite attentive, kept asking us if we wanted drink refills, and passed the snack basket around about 1.5 hour prior to landing.
