US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - 2005 Club Renewal

I have been CP for the past few years and every year I have recieved a complimentary Club membership. I will be a CP again this year, but yesterday I recieved in the mail a renewal form for retaining Club membership. Is that perk gone or just part of a systematic mailing (it was addressed to me as being a CP)?

I just went through today's mail - got the same "invitation" to renew - as did my friend who is also a US1. My hope is that it was part of some automatic batch process, but if not, we will sign up for UA's RCC's since as 1Ks we can get a better deal for combined usage.
Oh well, don't like it if true, but it has been generous of US to have extended it so long.

Same here.
I'm pretty sure they sent these out last year too. And extended the benefit in February.
It's one of the few benefits that still differentiates CP from GP and a nice little extra for CPs that go above and beyond (in the past the qualifiers are long term CP status, 150 segments, 150k miles or a whole bunch of revenue.) I'm expecting them to continue it.

I have received a comp club membership for the past seven years. In the past, I have not received a club renewal form with the offer to PAY for my membership. Has anyone spoken with CCY to see what's the deal for 2005?
Like others, if the comp is over, I'll buy a RCC membership.

Discussion here late last year mentioned that in 2005, renewals would no longer be able to be purchased with miles.
I got the same letter yesterday; at the bottom, the miles purchase option is listed. Has anyone attempted to renew this way?

I've been comped forever too but as I said I'm fairly sure that this happened last year (and probably has before as well).
Memory of non-events from a year or more ago is always sort of dim but I think the most significant change this year is that the solicitation letter is bigger and glossier -- and thus more noticable.
I'm quite certain that notification of the comp has traditionally been at the last minute. You can likely find threads to that effect from last year and the year before.
I see no incentive to renew before the current membership expires so just sit tight. It does seem to me that if the comp is, for some wierd reason, not offered that buying a RCC membership makes way more sense.
I'm expecting the comp to occur again. As I said before it is one of the few things that recognizes a CP who goes above and beyond.

I believe I remember this from last year, and maybe the year before that (kinda like the annual Prince of Pain, are they going to roll over miles, etc. annual threads).
I remember theorizing that they try to get you to renew without telling you it will be automatically renewed until after Feb. 28 to try to get some cash in the door. I think the notice of automatic extension came around March 2 or 3 last year. I'd hold off on renewing until you really need it - like your first flight after March 1.

It's like deja vu all over again.

(And I should have read Tom's thread before posting mine - I could have saved typing by just putting "ditto" :D )

This is the first year that I can recall actually receiving a letter to "renew" my club membership. When you're comped, there isn't anything to "renew". We renew by maintaining our status level.
They do keep us guessing until late February..........without a comped US Club membership, I'll be heading over to RCC.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why are people saying that they will buy the RCC membership but refuse to pay for US Club membership. Since you are all CP's and travel on US heavily, it would make since to contine with the US Club. One of the best reasons to be a member is to have access to the agents that can do wonders in my opinion vs. a gate agent who cares nothing about you or your status. Consider yourselves lucky for being comped for many years b/c many airlines do not do that. Since you all are fanatics over the RCC why don't you just add that on with the US Club membership. Just my 2 cents worth.

If you buy a US Club membership you have to pay extra to get into RCCs and it only works if you're on a UA ticket.
If you have an RCC membership you can always get into a UA club (think PHX) and if you're on a US ticket (and as a CP you probably will be...) you also get into the US Club. For less money.
There may also be a vendetta aspect to it for some people ;)

OK...that makes more sense. Have you ever thought about Priority Pas???

The 12 pages of that thread describe and comment on the "improved" three-tiered US Airways Club membership levels that are driving so many paying members into the arms of the Red Carpet Club. :td: :td:
We can always hope that if enough people make the switch to the RCC, eventually Crystal City will see the light and rescind the bogus surcharges, if US survives long enough to do so. @:-)
As for Priority Club, it is not useful to many people who spend a lot of time at hub airports.

Unfortunately they have a habit of constructing self-fulfilling prophecies. They'll probably look at a narrow subset of the numbers and decide that the clubs aren't attracting the right people and should be closed rather than realize that they've caused a problem and could easily fix it.
OTOH maybe now that TripleB is gone someone willing to think outside of that box is running the show.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get comped a club memebership. Not trying to cheat the system or anything (ok .. maybe I am) but I have been CP for 2 years now and never even considered trying to get a comp'd membership ?

The answer is in post #3 above. You need 150K tier miles or 150 segments. And I think you have to be a member to get a comp extension.
