Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - What's a good J-class special meal option?

Did a search in this forum regarding special meal requests and there have not been many topics lately.

One aspect of CX's service which I don't enjoy is that they pre-plate the food during the meal service. On my last flight, I saw a pax return his choice after a few minutes, and frankly it wasn't clear to me that the dish was thrown out for passenger consumption.

On United, pre-ordering the bento box option on NRT flights is a hidden secret. Are there any special meals available on CX (ex SFO in this case) that are particularly good? Kosher, Muslim, Seafood, High Fat, High Glucose, etc.?

On a related note, does CX cater the J and F cabins with food service at the point of departure, or does the airline sometime carry along enough food on the outbound from HKG for the return flight?

Thanks.

CX fortunately, caters out of the port of departure. They don't bring stuff from HKG over and use it on the other way around, I think. There is no seafood special meal request like a few other airlines have unfortunately........................ I can't really answer which meal is good.............. Meal choices are different on each flight, out of different ports, you know............

Hmm, what is the purpose of you getting a special meal? Do you want to taste a different kind of food, or what? :)

Some people have the notion that "special meals" are specially prepared for them and hence are 'better' and different from the usual slosh.

Actually with special meals, airlines tend to go strictly according to the meal specifications and are generally much more bland and basically are well, more like airline food than what CX normally serves. Unless it's for religious purposes, I'd stick with the usual CX offerings. I've found CX meals to be good irrepsective. Some people just want to feel special... I remember a fellow passenger ordering a Kosher meal on a recent flight on CX once. Once on board, the passenger actually changed his mind and decided to go with what CX's choices were. The FAs were very good about it and gave him his choice... Barbequed PORK with rice.

Did he say Kosher???

Hahaha, (rolling on the floor laughing) :D The utter irony of it is just sooooo funny....................... If he had another dish, it wouldn't be so funny, but Pork?, how very kosher of him! Oy vey!

Actually, anyone know if the Kosher meal has matzo ball soup or Gefilte fish? I have a uncanny appetite for that stuff............ :D

"Cha Siu Fan" (Chinese term for Barbequed Pork with rice). Sounds very unkosher to me... but hey the pax made his choice and he got what he wanted. :D

At least CX cabin crew just gave him the meal without fuss. If he was on a US carrier (no names mentioned,. he would have have gotten nothing as they cater exact!)

However that said, I can vouch that CX's Asian vegetarian meals are actually quite nice!

When I've noticed J class pax getting special meals, they appear to get a meal in a foil package a la economy. I don't know if it was pre=ordered special meal or if the person didn't see anything on the menu that suited their palatte and therefore the crew retreived a Y-class meal.

I have seen it more than once, and I think the appetizer was different as well leading me to think that if you order a J class special meal, you are going to get a Y class meal.
