Does anyone have recommendations for a 1-night stay in the Rotorua area in August? I am trying to find somewhere nice, but not too too expensive.

Thanks!

Have a look at www.aa.co.nz and www.jasons.co.nz. There're plenty of mid-range hotels/motels in Rotorua.

I've stayed at the Rydges and the Novotel. The Rydges was cheaper than the Novotel and I thought it was better. Both are standard issue hotels.

BTW. Rotorua is considerably less interesting than Yellowstone. If your time is short, I'd skip it.

Yeah, I've been to Rotorua, and it's not the most exciting place you can visit in NZ. One day is definitely enough. I do recommend the Polynesian Spa, however...and it's open until 11pm! http://www.polynesianspa.co.nz/

Thanks. I think I've narrowed it down to B&Bs or lodges. I have 5 days/4nts in NZ and am planning to do Auckland - Waitomo - Rotorua - Coromandel - Auckland in that time. I figured I'd need to o/n in Rotorua and/or Coromandel at least 1-2 nts.

As I'll also be going to Australia, I figured i'd skip northland/bay of islands this time.
