So I got some miles today for the 20k promo:
31-DEC-04 20TH ANNIVERSARY 2K MILES 2004 0 1 1
31-DEC-04 20TH ANNIVERSARY 2K MILES 2004 0 2,000 2,000
I flew on 12/30 and returned on 1/3/05. I really wanted these tier miles towards 2005, will I still get some for my return flight on 1/3/05? Also when I take flights in January will they start at 2k again or go to the next 3k?

According to the clarification I received, your next flight will receive 3K, then 4K, 5K, 6K, 2K.
Wasn't the promo for each RT? If you received credit for the outbound, I can't see getting credit for the return also. This seem to be along the same lines as hotel stays from 12/31 - 1/1 - everyone seems to have different policies on stay vs. night credits. It looks like US credits a RT on the outbound date.

That's not the end of the world then for me as I will receive the 2k as an incremental increase on my next two flights that would have been lower in 2005.
I have two trips in Janaury which will now get 3k and 4k, totalling 7k, vs 2k and 3k which is 5k.
So that 7,000 bonus miles will be this year.

I ran into the same issue. I flew out on 12/31/04 and came back on 1/03/05.
Bonus was credited to 2004. However, the promotion states that:
Bonus miles earned from travel completed between 11/16/04-12/31/04 will be credited to members 2004 Preferred balance and bonus miles earned from travel completed between 1/1/05-2/16/05 will be credited to members 2005 Preferred balance.
Well, the travel was completed in 2005, so I believe that's where the bonus ought to be credited.

its possible we may see credit for both, i can't decide whether to email them or just wait and see what happens.

And this was the way it worked for me...I took one qualifying RT in December & got the 2K. I took 4 qualifying RTs (so far) in 2005 and the miles posted as 3K, 4K, 5K, & 6K.

FYI, my mileage from my last trip in 2004 just posted today, but the date says 12-31-04 for the posting. I noted that my 2005 Preferred counter has not moved however (still 0/0/0). So I'm assuming they they posted it against 2004, and another year of being slightly better than scum for me! (Silver)

I sent them this today "I received 2,000 bonus miles towards tier status for my recent flight to ATL that credited on my 2004 total. However the rules of the promo 6855 say "Bonus miles earned from travel completed between 11/16/04-12/31/04 will be credited to members 2004 Preferred balance and bonus miles earned from travel completed between 1/1/05-2/16/05 will be credited to members 2005 Preferred balance. "
My travel was completed on 1/3/2005, so shouldn't I receive 2,000 miles towards my 2005 elite qualification?"
I will post their response.

Any word back? I'm in the same boat. THe first time I wrote I basically received a form email and was told that I got credit for 2004, which ignored the fact that I was asking specifically about the part that the travel was *completed* in 2005, per their rules.

This was my response :
Thank you for your email. The bonus miles credited to your 2004 Preferred miles because the outbound date of the reservation was in 2004. Unfortunately, this cannot be changed.
I've now escalated it as a problem through Consumer Affairs. I stated in the email that I don't want additional miles, just that they count towards this year.

Slightly off topic -- has anyone received bonus miles for 2005 for the 2nd 20K? I took 5 RTs in 2004 and I've already taken 3 RTs in 2005. No bonuses have posted for 2005, yet others who were on the same flights received their bonus miles already. I've called the CP desk several times and they have contacted the DMSC. I've been told they should post -- looks correct here, but nothing. All the other bonuses have posted-- online booking, online check-in, etc....
