Hilton HHonors - "Comments on File" at time of reservation

Just made a couple of New Orleans reservations for the Hampton downtown. On the personal info page the section for comments was greyed out with the statement "Comments on File."

I'm accustomed to no longer being able to review and edit the reservation comments for existing reservations, but this is the first time I haven't been able to enter any comments at the time of making the reservation. Recent change? Shouldn't Hilton just remove the field and tell us to call with any special requests?

If you used the "make another reservation at this hotel" link, I believe that it automatically populates the special request field with the same thing that you listed previously for that hotel. Not a good idea, IMHO.

It also seems to populate the field if choose make another reservation at another hotel. One of these days I just know its going to cause a problem for me.

It is always grayed out once you complete the reservation. I have never been unable to complete the comments box when making a new reservation and not using any of the shortcuts from previous stays.

Seems to me that different properties have different policies regarding inserting comments into the comment box but none allow you to see them after the reservation is done.
