Hilton HHonors - Hampton Inn River North VS. Homewood Suites in Chicago

On The Road Again

I have a 2 week stay in Chicago in early Feb. Have stayed at the HI a few times with a huge corner suite...but lately it seems a little tired.

I can get a great rate at the Homewood Suites this year. Any comparisons would be appreciated. Does Homewood have perks for Gold? I have never stayed at a Homewood.

The locations of both are good for me, so that is not an issue.

Thanks!!

I stay alot at Hamptons and Homewoods and Hiltons and ... You get the point.

For Airline Points, Homewoods give you 500, Hampton 100. If your going for HH 50% Bonus instead of Flyer miles, then it's a wash.

Both should have Free Internet access. Both will have "Breakfasts", although the Hamptons will be a 'light hot', while the Homewoods will be a full Hot (scrambled Eggs, Sausage, Biscuits & Gravy, Waffles, etc...)

Homewoods typically have "Manager Receptions" on Mon-Thur evenings. The one I frequent the most has food like: Lasagne, or MeatLoaf, or Fried Chicken, or... About 20 different evening Menu items (1-2 entres per nite)
It's like a Full meal. Plus typically there is a Salad Bar every nite of the Reception. Plus at my favorite Homewood, They have sweet Treats too. (fresh cookies, Brownies, etc) at 'dinner'. :D (typically it runs from 5-7pm)

For Lunch, I grab some Fruit, (Bananas, Apples, Oranges, Pears..) and maybe a Granola Bar or 2 and/or a Yogurt or 2 and well. After that HUGE breakfast, I have my light lunch, and then I'm Hungry for that nice Dinner... Gosh.. my entire food for the day was provided by Hilton! Thanx! I take my "lunch-money" (and B-fast & Dinner $) and buy a nice gift for my wife.

Fri-Sun, there is no "Mgr Rec".

The Upgrades.. I always get a 2 room Suite, (80% of their rooms are 2 Room Suites) and often, they bump me into the Jacuzzi Suite.. Ahhhhhh.. Nice after a hard days work. Even their 1 Room Studios are nice. Full Kitchen (meaning Full size Fridge, Stove, MW, Table w 2/4 chairs.) Stocked with cooking and eating utensils.

Homewood All the way! (really, no choice in my mind.)

Stayed at the Homewood and was not able to get a room with 2 double beds (most rooms at this property have only one bed). No upgrade as a gold probably because property was sold out. The standard rooms at the Hampton Inn are quite small like most rooms in downtown Chicago. If you stay here hopefully you can score one of the suites since this is a HI & Suites property.
