if you have each sector ticketed as an individual segment, and make a stopover (not a transit) then i think it should be 12 for qualifying economy fares.

Welcome JA (I think I recognise you from another board :) ).
As GK says, if you have 12 ticket coupons then that counts as 12 sectors for Marco Polo purposes. But if your BKK-BOM-DXB is actually ticketed on one coupon as BKK-DXB and it just so happens that the plane stops in BOM then that would only be one segment.
If you talking economy then the ticket has to be booked in one of the subclasses YBHKLMV
