Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - Christchurch Red Bus vs Tram
The internet list Christchurch Tramway with tickets for 12.50, taking you around the central city
Also listed is the Shuttle, by Red Bus, which is free and has quite different but overlapping service
Do both these still operate? Do I have my research wrong?
We will have a rental car but would like to leave it parked the two days we spend in the central city.
Thanks

You dont need either.
Christchurch central is quite small and you can easily walk around
The shuttle runs up and down Colombo St and is free (its a yellow bus, you cant miss it)
You can park your car downtown easily in one of the lots or at a meter.
The tram is a tourist attraction (scam I think), it does a small loop from Cathedral Square which is central and never more than 10 mintues walk from any other major attratcion downtown
Thank you...and from the Bahamas, no less!
We plan to leave our car at the Holiday Inn and take there shuttle into town for the 2 days. Just checking alternatives if I poop out, bad foot.

Agree tram is strictly for tourists and over-priced. Christchurch has a reasonable (by NZ standards) bus service.

If you want to go back and is tired, taxi may also be a viable option since most places in the center would not cost more than 5-10$ by cab.
