I have never flown CX, flying either SQ or UA from NYC to SIN.
I am wondering if anybody flies this route on CX and if so, what is the best agent/website to get a cheap fare. I am also wondering if being AA status is recognized on CX in terms of bonus miles or occasional perks like free upgrades.
Any advise appreciated. Thanks.

if being AA status is recognized on CX in terms of bonus milesYes of course - AA bonus miles apply on all OneWorld airlines.
or occasional perks like free upgrades.
Yes sometimes. AA EXP comes behind CX Diamond (OW Emerald) and maybe behind CX Gold (OW Sapphire), but ahead of anyone else in general. But only if it is overbooked in the class you are ticketed.

...a cheap fare....
One caveat....
If you are looking for "cheap" fares, in Economy on CX and SQ only certain fares are eligible for miles. They are Y, B, H on CX for AA miles, and Y, B on SQ for UA miles. OTOH, all UA economy classes qualify for miles.
If you are looking for "cheap" biz or first class fares, all booking classes are eligible for miles.

For discounted F/J fares on CX from the US, you may want to look into the CX Leverage program and see if you qualify. Discounts up to 25% directly from CX:

As for any cheap fares ex/JFK (or ex-LAX/SFO as a matter of fact) one of your best bet would be www.cathay-usa.com as their fares are generally lower than cx.com (especially in low seasons). I'm sure there are, but haven't heard of any TA's in NYC that offer favorable CX rates. But don't count on getting low rates for J & F fares ex-JFK as this route is targeted more towards corporate/business travel than leisure/family.

There are much cheaper CX fares available but they are not in the fare brackets (H, B and Y) that permit AAdvantage mileage accrual.

MH is the cheapest now.
The routings are :
EWR - ARN - KUL - SIN
Then, SIN - KUL - ARN - EWR.
You are not allowed to use the SQ operated shuttle flights between KUL & SIN.

If the OP would book an AA codeshare operated by CX, he would get 100% miles credit and EQMs in AAdvantage irregardless of if he books discounted Y Fare, as well as, use of the AA lounges as EXP.

If don't plan to use your miles I suggest you go on SQ EWR-SIN... It’s the better option than flying CX and connecting in HKG... But if you are interested in visiting HK then you should go on CX...
