Hi-
I'm in HKG now and was wondering if folks had experience with CX check-in at Hong Kong Station. I'm assuming that one can check-in bags along with getting a boarding pass, but any info would be appreciated. I'm flying to NRT on Tuesday.

Thanks

Yes. 90 minutes prior departure, otherwise you'd have to check in at the airport.

And as early as the day before, which can be handy if you have an early morning flight and don't want to carry your bags through an all night session in LKF/Wanchai! ;)

(You can have a shower when you get to The Wing.)

Don't presume OP is flying in a premium cabin.

You're allowed access to CX's lounge if OP is flying Business / First or is a Sapphire and above Oneworld elite member.

Yes. I love this option and do this everytime on the eve of the evening prior to the following day's afternoon departure on CX888 or 838 to YVR. Afterall it takes less than 10 mins by cab to Kln Station from my place in Hung Hom. By doing so, I can still enjoy more than half a day in HKG hanging out with friends, have lunch, etc and have a worry-free mind before heading out to the airport.

Let's keep our fingers cross that the same can be resumed for SFO & LAX bound flights once the US elects a new president.

Since you're going to Narita, normally the plane parks farther from the Wing sometimes, and the Pier could be another option. The Wing is great, lots of food selection, very well appointed, but a little too busy in my opinion. The Pier, is just as good, but more quieter, peaceful in my opinion.

I still find it so strange that someone flying the AA codeshare on CX to NRT and continuing to LAX can check a bag in-town but someone traveling direct HKG-LAX can't.

Don't forget CX830 as well. You can't In Town Check for that either. I always take AEL, but I seldom use ITC. I normally check in very late, on regionals to SIN, KUL, TPE, NRT, since I always hope for upgrades, and have been op-uped on a NRT. I never liked CX's ITC staff, some were a bit obnoxious, since once I checked in for 828, he gives me seat 69E on purpose. I said, I want a window seat up front, he gives me a dirty look, and gives me 70A, I said, please, give me a seat more in the front, then he gave me 32K.

CX's ground staff in ITC leave something to be desired, especially on the KLN side. Their HKG ground staff is ok, but their in-flight staff are the best.

Good point. CX888 goes HKG-YVR-JFK, and ITC is allowed. You could be going direct to JFK, with no problem. But I don't think there is a flight HKG-NRT-LAX on CX, is there? Or do you mean HKG-NRT is CX on AA codeshare, then NRT-LAX is AA?

This is only my guessing so don't take my words for granted. Unlike CX 872,882,880,830 that flies nonstop directly from HKG and lands immediately on US soil, there are stopping grounds on non-US territories along the way for CX888 HKG-YVR-JFK (Canada) and HKG-NRT-LAX (Japan). So for these two flights there is the option of conducting the baggage inspection at YVR & NRT respectively before the aircraft lands on US soil. Technically, CX888 does not "officially" become US-Bound until it leaves YVR. Besides after taking this flight many times....FAs only distribute the Canada Customs Declaration Card during embarkment at HKG while the US forms are not distributed until reembarkment at YVR

But to my surprise... CX828 goes directly nonstop from HKG to a US territory (ANC) and ITC is allowed for this. WEIRD.....

It makes sense, no deboard at ANC, and no unloading of luggage, or whatever. And the US additional check I think isn't applied on CX888 even in YVR, probably the people going just on YVR-JFk, may have additional inspection. But it is a lot mroe lenient in Canada, since sometimes I fly to ORD or JFK on short trips, and there's never a additional inspection.

I guess its a ITC concern. I once used UA for HKG-ORD, and no ITC allowed as well. The people who's final destination is NRT, can ITC, but the ones that continue to LAX or SFO, may not ITC.

I think this may also have to do with the fact there is more control as to the mindset of baggage inspection at the airport vs. ITC. Check-in at the airport means that the luggage goes directly into the aircraft after inspection. But with ITC, the luggage will have to go via train, buses, trucks, etc (I have no idea how they transport luggages from HK & KLN station to the aircraft) before reaching the aircraft and as most of us already know....that tiny insecure feeling of something happening along the way of the transport is more than enough to trigger a US paranoia (Silly government).

Actually, have you noticed the AEL trains have a car in the front, with no windows, but doors? There's your explanation.

Ya. I know what you mean, I've seen this these type of trains passing by while waiting at those KCR stations. But I don't recall the last time seeing one along the Northern Lantau rails. Who knows...could be my timing. :D

Ya. I know what you meanClearly you don't understand what he said. I believe that the end carriage on every Airport Express train is the luggage carriage - it has doors but no windows as

I just wasn't too clear with what the AEL abbreviation stood (I normally think of AE for Airport Express Abbreviation) for so I previously thought the reference was made to some kind of cargo type trains. Yes, I know those trains via the KCR tracks goes to Guangzhou not the airport.... I just thought you meant the same types are used to carry the luggages. After taking the AE numerous times, I haven't really paid close attention to what goes on at the front and at the back as I usually board somewhere in the middle. So next time I'll board somewhere near the back so I can catch a better glimpse. ;)

I see what you thought. I can't really blame you, since not everyone pays attention to every car of the train. I like the middle as well.
