Hilton HHonors - Question: Silver VIP with 0 stays current year

First, I am fairly new to FT so bare with me while I ask my question... I have done a search but havent found exactly what I am looking for.
I am a silver VIP with HHonors and have a point balance of ~8700; however, I have 0 stays in all categories for the current year (didnt travel much last year but looking to travel more this year).
Question: Am I really a Silver VIP even though I dont have any stays? Also, since I have 0 stays do you believe another program is better than HHonors for which to earn status, etc? My business travel is minimal and my personal travel isnt much better at the moment but I hope to travel more this year and want to earn status at properties to get the 'perks' that all of you love to get! Thanks for any answers/advice.

Not surprised that you have no stays as of yet for 2005! :D
Silver likely expires early 2005. Have called the desk to find out your expiry date? Do a search here to see the many opportunities for Silver VIP. Lots of ways to get it without staying. (Search for "comp" and "gold" or "silver" for example)
Silver only takes 4 stays or 10 nights to reach so it is very easy to do. If you do 4 one night stays, you will be silver again. Staying at Hampton Inns or Embassy Suites, Hilton Garden Inns should get you your 4 stays fairly inexpensively.
There was an offer earlier in the year where you phoned HHonors and ask to have a special promotion code, NAVG (which I believe has now expired) and you get Silver after 2 stays and Gold after 4, within a 90 day period. Keep checking this board for these sorts of promos as they are posted should an FTer find one.
Good luck!!

Thanks for the info! I will call HHonors in the morning (they are closed now) and ask them when my Silver status expires and if there are any special offers right now that will allow me to earn gold or higher at a special promotion. I appreciate the answers!

Hilton status is good through the end of March of the following year. So even if you never step in a Hilton again, you will remain a Silver until the end of March 2005. Stay four times in the next three months, and you'll either be a Silver or a Gold through April 2006, depending on what promos are out there you can qualify for.

Getting Gold, or higher, would be ideal... I need to find some promos! BTW, thanks for answering the question of when my status would expire if I did nothing.

I called HHonors up this morning and referred them the NAVG code to which they replied expired on 12/31/2004. I then referred them to their website address: http://www.hiltonhhonors.com/processLanding.aspx?lp=navigant listing the code which says it is still applicable and the rep got a supervisor and the supervisor said she is prepared to honor the website details even though the code is inactive so she made notes on my account and told me to complete 4 stays in 90 days and I would be Gold! She said I would need to call back in, refer the rep to her notes, and then the rep would make me gold after the 4th stay.
So, my question is: What is a qualifying stay? I used to doing priceline but obviously that will not work here. Is a Q-stay one where I just book it normally? How do I ensure I get the best price available and still be a Q-stay?
Thanks all for your help as I am still a newbie :)

Hilton status is good through the end of March of the following year.Hmmm... I think it's the end of April. My Diamond card says 'Expires 4/2005'.
If the OP earned Silver in 2004 his/her status will be valid through 2005 until April 2006.
