Is there anyone on FT who is old enough to have visited Manila before WWII?
Why I ask is that I recently saw an episode of the 1952 documentary "Victory at Sea" and in this episode "Return of the Allies", footage purporting to be of Manila before the Japanese invasion in 1941 clearly shows street traffic travelling on the left. I would have expected that, given their history (Spanish then USA) they would have kept right.
Two possible explanations come to mind:
the film has somehow been mirror reversed
the footage is of somewhere else
Does anyone know if they did, in fact, drive on the left in the Philippines at some stage
