Hilton HHonors - Two questions: HHonors awards, and New Orleans Homewood Suites

Hi --

Two quick questions:

1. You've booked an award night in New Orleans as the first stage of a cruise vacation. Does your trip insurance provide any protection?
We know the insurance covers airfare, the cruise itself, and the two paid hotel nights in San Juan after the cruise ... but what of the award night? If you miss that, you're not really "out" anything financially.
(For that matter, what's the best strategy if you've booked an award stay in advance, gotten the confirmation ... but in the end could not go? Can you salvage the points by cancelling through the hotel itself, or through HHonors members services?)

2. On a closely related topic ... online through Hilton's Web site, you've booked an award night in New Orleans. A minor miracle, since the night involved is during Jazzfest, and every hotel that isn't sold out is demanding outrageous rates and/or a three-night minimum.
You've gotten a confirmation ... but you secretly wonder whether this booking was a computer error (that will work against you).
Do you call HHonors to verify it's accurate, or take your chances that night by showing up with the confirmation printout?

Any thoughts most appreciated!

You can cancel an award so long as you do it in time. I would cancel with HHonors so they know to redeposit your points.

If you have a confirmation number and it turns out it was a computer error, Hilton should honor the confirmation. You should call to confirm, if you are worried about it. :p :p Good luck.
