While searching flights ex-Asia on AA.com, the search engine returned comments 'refreshments for purchase' for a booking in economy class. Trans-pacific flights did not have that notice, while regional Asia flights and the JFK-YVR flight did have this notice. Has CX gone the buy on board? I did not see any notice on the cathaypacific.com web site, so I am hoping that it is in error.

The AA system sees the meal code as R which in Cathay speak is Brunch, but AA speak is meal available for purchase (it used to be Brunch in the AA system years ago). Cathay has definitely not gone to buy on board!

A definite error so don't freak out. CX has plenty of free meals in Y including FREE wines & spirits and they WON'T go towards the 'Buy on Board' anytime soon or should I say never will ^ . This misleading information is so shocking and caused by the AA themselves who IMO....assumes all carriers are in a tight budget like themselves and thus would carry out the optional meal purchase. This also explains why AA themselves are no where close to CX in terms of quality, comfort, etc.

There will be mutiny (by all CX passengers) if CX started Buy-Meals-on-board!

There was almost a mutiny when CX stopped serving hot meals on HKG-TPE and went to hot sandwiches post-SARS! :D
