I have about 100,000 SPG points that I would like to redeem for an unforgettable vacation in 2005. I'm traveling from NYC and would appreciate any suggestions as to where to go. Originally, I was thinking of going to Southeast Asia but the recent tragedy has axed that plan.
Any/All recommendations of where & when I should go would be appreciated. Particularly helpful if you've done the trip yourself and can speak on a first-hand basis. I'm looking for somewhere tropical/scenic with great local charm & some nite life to cater to a group of young metropolitan girls.
Thank you!

it's not metropolitan, but perhaps one of the properties on Maui might be..?

Italy?
It's always unforgettable, unless you don't want to lose the girls... ;)
Or anywhere that I am going this year. I'd love to meet them. :D
Apologies in avance if they're related to you.
Italy.
29 properties, last time I checked. I've never been disappointed, even at a category 1 4-points in Rome!! (But for a "trip of a lifetime", I would choose St Regis or the Excelsior.)

I would still recommend the Sheraton Laguna Nusa Dua, Bali. As far as I know Bali was not affected by the disaster. The Nusa Dua is a Category 2 property and, at least as a Platinum, I always had a great luxury suite. I was there earlier this year. There is also plenty of nightlife.
If you go to Bali, you can fly on CO through Hawaii and stay at a Starwood there too. The airfare to Bali is often quite reasonable and you will get lots of miles for your trip.
Actually I am off to Thailand next month where I will stay at the equally luxurious Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit in Bangkok.
There is also Australia, but I am not familiar with the Starwood properties there.

Sydney and Melbourne are both great cities with great *wood properties. However, I wouldn't classify this as a blow-out vacation option, especially for New Yorkers. I've stayed at the Sheraton in Noosa and there was ZERO nightlife. Very disappointed. I believe the Sheraton in Port Douglas is the same way. Others can tell you about the Sheraton Gold Coast. There might be a better chance of nightlife there.
I've not yet done a tropical vacation so I don't have any good suggestions. Do write back with what you decide though since after the upcoming winter in Chicago, I will need a tropical vacation.
