Looking at a ridiculous MR (LHR-LAX-SYD-MEL-SYD-LAX-IAD-LHR) in April. I intend to get to MEL at 09:40 then depart back to LAX at 11:25 on the same day.
Am I correct in assuming that passengers on this flight would clear customs and immigration at SYD as this is the point of entry into Australia?
Do you think that the 1:45 turnaround would be a problem?
Thanks for any help!

You will clear immigration at SYD if your SYD-MEL is a domestic flight. Otherwise, you have to disembark and go through a security check again, but not immigration until MEL.
1:45 won't be a prob either!
Head over to the QF board for more information.

You only clear immigration at the very last arrival point on UA in Australia, in your case Melbourne. Sydney is just a security check and back up to the Aircraft or Lounge (NZ Lounge is much nicer by the way)
But if your turning around why not just go through the transit security, remain airside and go to the RCC for your flights back to LHR??
That probably would be the easiest unless u wana go through all the Customs formalities.
