Other Car Rental Programs/Partners (ie. Alamo, Enterprise, Sixt) - Fun & games w/ insurance coverage

Had my first Alamo rental experience earlier this week... what a hoot.

First, the woman asks me "which coverage do you want?" Hmmmm.... let's see, do I have "sucker" written on my head... no I don't think so. Let's try "None of the choices you're offering me."

Her response, "Well you know you're not covered for X,Y and Z?" Hmmm... actually I don't know that, because that's patently false, but thanks for trying to extort a few bucks out of me anyway!! Interesting that she knows more about my personal insurance coverage than I do (when she doesn't even know who my carrier is).

Got my contract, got in my car and left. What a sleazy way to run a business.

I had a similar experience with Alamo in Tampa a few years ago. The guy was insisting that I choose a coverage. I told him that I will not and he stated that I wouldn't be able to rent from them. I asked for the manager and the whole thing was resolved in about 30 seconds. I told the manager that it was BS to run a business like that and I actually forwarded a complaint to the state dept of consumer affairs. I know for a fact that they got questioned on it as I got a letter months later from the folks involved with a letter of apology as well as a book of free rental certificates.
