American Express Membership Rewards - Platinum Problems, any suggestions

i have been a plat charge card member now for over a year and the only reason why i still keep this card after the terrible time i have had with amex is to get centurion membership.

yesterday i called up plat uk concierge as i needed "half a mug" for a special xmas theme dinner at work.

I was angered when i was told by plat that as it involves the team to do work to actually find the mug then it is not covered on the plat card and only this type of concierge is only open to centurion members.

I felt like telling them to shove their card, as if i knew where to get it from i would have ordered it myself.

I asked to spk to a manager and they are all soo clueless. I recieved a message today from a so called manager saying that this service it not for plat members and if i told them where to order it then they would.

I have had problems after problem. Ive been with amex for about 15 months and in total have spent about £43k on the card.

i was hoping for some suggestions as to wether its worth trying to fight amex for being idiots, leave amex, or stay with the hope of centurion.

many thanks in advance

Maybe you should have your card "cut in half"...

Well, it took me all of 30 second to find the mug you want on ebay from a UK seller for just £2.95:

Platinum Concierge could have done this for you. Or, of course, you could have done it yourself!

Ring them up and tell them you want to cancel because of the poor service you got and when they put you through to the card retention department, ask them for a Centurion.

You may or may get a Centurion "invite", if they don't then ask them why not. They might offer you some other incentive to keep your card. If they won't budge then just tell them you have decided to keep the card after all.

Good luck!

ah ok.. :o

On the topic of the UK Plat service, haven't had any problems with them. The only one they said they couldn't do was get a living baby elephant delivered to a girls door...I did call at 3am, steaming drunk. It was all because the guy I was with told her I could get anything with my amex card  next thing I remember was someone asking me for my security details on amex... :p

next day I called up to see if they could get me some Edinburgh street party tickets and the girl said "ooo never been asked that before, strange request" and then she started to giggle and said "not as strange as some of your other requests"....
