Long story, but will have a couple of days to spare in SE Asia early next year and this can basically be in any of the following destinations - KUL, SIN, BKK or HKG. All these places offer direct flights to where I need to go & come from.

Now, I'm not looking for a beach holiday but something along the lines of a city resort (so we can just lounge by a really nice pool etc if we don't want to slog it around town all day) probably fits the bill. The only examples I know of are the Marriott in BKK and possibly the Shangri-La in SIN, (although have stayed at neither so don't really know what to expect).

If anyone has any thoughts/observations as to where might make a good choice of destination, then please let me know. I've been to all the cities at least a couple of times before so there's no novelty value for one city over another here...

Many thanks

Tony

Marriott BKK is nice. There is a very good dinner cruise that departs from their dock also. The boats look like old Chinese junks. The cruise is enjoyable and the food is excellent. We did this in Feb '03.

However, since you are in the area. You might want to consider the resort city of Nusa Dua on Bali. Direct flights available from SQ, and the Nusa Dua resorts are very secure.

The Intercontinental in HKG has a nice pool with views over the city, but depending on exactly how early next year it might be a bit cool.

It's going to be mid-March by the look of things. The IC - that's Kowloon side, isn't it?

Bangkok is to be avoided in mid March. Far too hot, even poolside.

I think a deluxe hotel in Singapore would be more attractive at that time of year.

Look at the photo tour here: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ic/1/en/hpt/HKGHC and you get some idea of the pools.

Must admit, i'm erring towards the Valley Wing of the Shangri-La in Singapore as it seems as if we can get a very slick end-to-end service with them.

Any specific comments on this property are welcome - for comparison, i've stayed at the Pan Pac (Pacific floors) and the Westin Plaza (when it was a Westin) in SIN. (And also the Grand Central, behind Le Meridien, but that was student days - a long time ago...)
