Hi

Just like to check if anyone has experienced bidding for Tokyo Metropolitan Crowne Plaza Hotel and stayed there before.

Are there extra fees, taxes or charges payable for stays booked via PL? Thanks.

There will be no extra taxes/fees other than those already covered in your priceline bid. Any charges you incur at the hotel, of course, will be extra. Note that there is a business center near the reception desk with free internet usage.

Thanks for the reply.

It is indicated in the PL website as follows:

Also, depending on the city you select, a local tax or "Hotel Occupancy Tax" may apply. These taxes will be added by your hotel and will be payable upon check-out.

Are there any occupancy tax that I need to pay upon check-out?

By the way, are there broadband access in the room that I can use my notebook to hook up to? If yes, do you know the charges?

Last time I was in Tokyo, there was no occupancy surcharge/tax. Although I didn't stay at the Crowne Plaza, I'm assuming such a tax would be applied to all hotels.

I have stayed at that Crowne Plazza several times, and tried to use PL. However, my bids were rejected until they were approaching the price direct from Crowne Plaza. I generally never use PL unless there is ~ 50% savings. You should check the 5 day or advanced pay rate at http://crowneplaza.tokyo.ichotelsgroup.com/.
Also www.asiatravel.com sometimes has some deals with breakfast.

It is a nice hotel, near both the railroad and subway. There is also a direct bus from the hotel to NRT.

We stayed at the Crown Plaza in Ikebukuro last March through Priceline- and no, there were no extra charges tacked on (but if I remember correctly, Priceline tacked on what seemed like "a lot" to our bid).

Just to give you an idea, we bid $95 through Priceline, for three nights, and the total bill came to somewhere around $360.

It was a really nice hotel - rooms were small compared to the US, but you probably know that already. We showed them our Priority Points club card when checking in (even through we knew we had booked through Priceline), and the desk agent very politely told us that our stay does not qualify for points - but because we are gold members, here are two complimentary drink tickets to our bar. Awefully nice of them!

Have a great trip!

I'm new here so be kind (bad experience on BFT-I made one post when I joined and every computer in the entire building I work at was banned  ). Just thought it might be useful to let people know that today PL sent notices to their hotel partners that for bookings made on or after Jan 11 they will be able to show and collect all taxes, including occupancy taxes, so taxes will now be completely paid with your prepaid bid. Charges like parking and resort fees will continue to be collected locally.

I just stayed at the hotel over Thanksgiving (also paying $95.00). Here was the total from priceline:

Your Offer Price: $95.00
Number of Rooms: 1
Number of Nights: 3
Subtotal: $285.00
Taxes & Service Fees:
$55.71
Total Charges: $340.71

There were no other charges from the hotel.

I liked the hotel and the area a lot. One nice thing is that the airport express stops at Ikebukuro so you can come and go to the airport without switching trains.

Hi guys

Many many thanks for all your feedback.

I have just came back from my trip in Tokyo. I have stayed there from 23 Dec to 27 Dec with the exception of 24 Dec where I was not able to get a room at the hotel.

Check-in is strictly 1pm, but they offered me welcome drink coupons to redeem for a variety of drinks at their coffee house. I was also able to get a late check-out on 24 Dec 2004 at 2pm. This is pretty good as the queue at 11am for check-out was long!

Room is small, but not as small as though I have seen before in other hotels in Tokyo for the same price. Room is also clean and nice.

Oh yes, there are no additional charges to be paid upon check-out.

My return flight from Tokyo was a morning flight, and there are no Narita Express Train to airport. As such, I have to take the subway line to Tokyo station to catch the 8am train. Not very troublesome though as my luggage is light.

Would love to stay at this hotel again in future for its excellent service and clean rooms.

Hi everyone,

I will be going to Tokyo for a week in May for leisure. Can someone please confirm the free high speed internet in the rooms for this hotel? Also one the posts in this thread mentioned the availability of a direct bus from the hotel to NRT. Can you please provide more information on that? I probably will be going to Tokyo Disney during my stay? Is it near the hotel? Would it be difficult to get to? Thanks?

Ricky

I did not request for the high speed internet connection but I believe it is available. If not, you can always use the free computer in the business centre located at 1st floor. You can refer to the website for details:
http://www.metropolitan.jp/eng/stay/index.htm

As for the ride to Disneyland, it will take you slightly less than an hour by subway and train. You can take the subway from Ikebukuro to Tokyo train station to change for the JR line to Disneyland. Refer to this website for directions to get to Disneyland:
http://www.tokyodisneyresort.co.jp/tdr/english/plan/access/index.html

You can take the airport bus from Narita airport directly to hotel:

Thanks for the info. Is it most helpful. Do you recommend advance bookings on the bus from/to the airport? At 28 bucks, for the simplicity of it, it seems like real bargain for the distance you are going. Thanks.

For the trip from hotel to airport, you can pre-book with the hotel travel counter upon your check-in. The payment will be made directly to the driver when you board. As for the airport to hotel, you should be able to get a seat on the spot by purchasing it from the airport counter. If not, the Narita airport train is also a good option if you are not carrying heavy luggage. The hotel is very near to the JR station.

Does anyone know of the cheapest prepaid phone cards from Japan back to the US. The cheapest I can find is 19 cents a minute, which seems a bit high. THanks.

hi gang.

I'm heading to Tokyo in a couple of weeks and a friend is going to come with me. Thinking about bidding for this hotel since it seems nice.

I'm going for 6 nights total. Should I try to bid the 6 days in one shot, or go 3-3 with the bids?

The Max i'll pay is $100/night + taxes

The rooms, do they come standard with two beds or just one? I'd perfer two beds which is why I ask.. i don't feel keen spending my vacation sharing a bed with another dude.

Thanks in advance!

You can go to the priorityclub.com website to check if rooms are available for the period of 6 days that you want. If standard room is available, then you should not have a problem to get it from priceline.com at around the range of US$80 to US$90 a night (excl taxes).

The bedroom assigned is a double bed-room (that is one single bed). If you require twin bed room, you can ask for it during check-in, but you will need to top-up an additional fee of about 3,000yen per night (if my memory did not fail me).

Good luck in your bid!

You can also compare your bid prices to those at asia travel which include tax and service. It has an option of two beds and breakfast.

The site is:

Thanks man, I didn't see that site before (and i searched extensively for Tokyo hotel sites). That makes it seem like a better deal..

As a Followup I went ahead and bid for the hotel and got it at $84+ (about $95 allin)/night. Not a bad deal for Tokyo! Place seems adequate if not nice (I have low standards).

Now i need to see if 2-bed rooms are included. I'm not sharing a bed with my friend...

Does anyone have a breakdown of how much each mode of transportation is from NRT to this hotel (roundtrip)?

Hotel says 28000JPY, which is $247USD

There are tons of links on flyertalk to Narita transportation prices. It's probably the single easiest question on Japan travel to research. :)

Unless you have a railpass or want to try the "local" train connection to save money, I'd recommend first-timers take the "Limousine Bus" if it directly serves your hotel (my recollection is that there's a Crowne Plaza stop). It's about 3000 yen one way. They also have a good promotion where, for an extra 100 yen, you get a "use any day" Tokyo Metro pass (just figure out which lines are covered -- some lines are private).

From my experience, the Limo Bus is fast, comfortable and relaxing. Good things if you're just gotten off a long transpacific flight.

It's been nearly two months since this was posted, and I still find myself chuckling when I remember it! :)
